One would think that it would be a good thing for many heroes to come together for the events of Avengers: Doomsday, but looks can be deceiving. The last time we saw a devastating fallout between Marvel superheroes was during the events of Captain America: Civil War back in 2016. Now, a decade later, the Marvel Cinematic Universe might look to outdo itself.

Multiple reports indicate that Avengers: Doomsday will pit Earth's Mightiest Heroes against the X-Men in a huge, explosive battle. The underlying motive behind this fight is more tragic than some simple superhero regulation accords; it is all about survival. It has been rumored that the X-Men have faced many incursions—cataclysmic events in which two universes collide and both could be destroyed in the process.

Each time, the X-Men had to do the unthinkable and destroy the universe that was crashing into theirs to guarantee their survival. Unfortunately, it seems yet another incursion will happen, and it will affect a hero with whom audiences are very familiar.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man will reportedly fight Deadpool and Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday

Superhero fans have been asking to see Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man share the big screen with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, but you know how the saying goes: Be careful what you wish for. According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, Logan and Deadpool will be sent to the original Spider-Man's Earth to destroy it during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. This will result in a devastating fight that will "end in tragedy".

Interestingly enough, another report revealed that Avengers: Doomsday's opening scene will feature a fight between Logan and the wall-crawler, so chances are both rumors refer to the same battle. If that were the case, then Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure would kick things off firing on all cylinders. The only question remaining is: Why would the X-Men's universe be on a collision course with Tobey's Earth?

Thanks to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, we know that an incursion occurs whenever someone spends a lot of time in a universe different from their own. But while it is true that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man had an unexpected multiversal adventure, he traveled to the MCU and not to the X-Men's world. So, why will the X-Men find themselves in a position where they need to erase Tobey's world?

One possible explanation is that, since the TVA isn't pruning branched realities anymore, the multiverse's unsupervised growth has led to multiple unexpected incursions. That would also explain why the X-Men lived through many of these cataclysmic events. Maybe He Who Remains was right, and his death could be the reason why the multiverse as a whole hangs by a thread, and heroes will be forced to fight each other.

It can be worrisome to learn that the battle between Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will end in "tragedy," with some fans speculating that one of these heroes could die. Fortunately, there's a silver lining. It has been reported that the original Spider-Man, Deadpool, Wolverine, and Tom Holland's Peter Parker will all have a prominent role in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Fortunately, it seems no shocking deaths will result from the opening hero vs hero battle in Avengers: Doomsday. On the flip side, there's a chance that the rumored tragic event turns out to be the destruction of Tobey's world, which would explain why he'd have no other option but to escape to another universe and join Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

At long last, we might find out who'd win in a fight between two Marvel legends. The circumstances might not be ideal, but at least it seems these fan-favorites will team up just in time for Avengers: Secret Wars. With that in mind, it seems superhero fans are in for a fantastic time.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
