It seems almost impossible to say but let's do it anyway: Avengers: Doomsday is right around the corner. It's been the movie that Marvel Studios has been slowly building towards for half a decade, laying the groundwork with every piece of its Multiverse Saga across film and regular streaming TV - the latter of which was a brand new addition to the franchise thanks to the Disney Plus streaming service. The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie even survived a last-minute franchise reset that saw it evolve from its original purpose (The Kang Dynasty) and become a Doctor Doom vehicle.
It worked like a dream, reviving interest in the film once known as Avengers 5 and allowing the MCU to fully lean into the Doomsday clock countdown, which has been ticking away as one specific date in 2026 approaches. However, a recent update suggests that this countdown may end a little earlier than expected for some audiences as the film has seemingly secured an earlier release date in specific locations.
Avengers: Doomsday will seemingly release early in select US and UK markets
Some lucky moviegoers will be able to see Avengers: Doomsday early it seems. Special screenings in the US and the UK have listed the film's release date as December 16, 2026 - two days earlier than the planned wide December 18 release in both markets.
Let's kick things off with the US. Eagle-eyed fans on social media have spotted a special US advance screening of Avengers: Doomsday listed for December 16 at 7:30 pm at Regency Theaters Granada Hills (a.k.a. Granada Hills 9 at Regency) in California. Meanwhile, UK theater chain Cineworld lists December 16 as the film's standard release, suggesting that they will begin showing the movie to general audiences two days earlier.
This approach isn't entirely out-of-the-ordinary for UK fans. In the past, Marvel Studios has released major MCU movies a day or two earlier in the UK and Ireland, with fans remarking that this was similar to the approach it took with 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Again, international releases coming a day or two earlier than the mainstream US ones isn't a brand new idea, but it will be interesting to see if this holds with a film the caliber of Avengers: Doomsday. After all, this is the culmination of the Multiverse Saga - or at least the very first part of that - and a cliffhanger is almost guaranteed given the upcoming 2027's sequel Avengers: Secret Wars, so is it a wise idea to release it early anywhere given that spoilers will almost certainly leak out in this modern age of social media?
The fans who will benefit from the early US screenings - and potentially early UK release in general - will understandably say yes, because it will mean that they are among the first audiences around the world to feast their eyes on the larger-than-life grandiose event. And honestly, who can blame them for wanting to be a part of that buzz.
The upcoming movie features a gigantic cast of stars from Marvel Studios' past, present, and future, as the Avengers team up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to save the multiverse from the threat that Doctor Doom poses. Victor von Doom himself is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the franchise after saying goodbye to Iron Man / Tony Stark in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and he will be joined by fellow Avengers returnees Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth.
Other Marvel stars in the massive cast are Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Simu Liu, Letitia Wright, Danny Ramirez, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, Paul Rudd, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. X-Men legends Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer reprise their legendary roles, too, while Deadpool and Wolverine's Channing Tatum joins the fray as Gambit.
Needless to say, if Avengers: Doomsday does begin releasing early in select theaters and markets, Marvel fans all over the world will be ready for it.
