After a seven-year hiatus, Earth's Mightiest Heroes are finally assembling on the big screen once more. Characters from all across the multiverse are bound to come together to rise against Doctor Doom and prevent the collapse of reality as a whole. The X-Men, Thunderbolts, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, and Avengers will all be part of the most ambitious Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover to date, and yet there's one key figure who will seemingly miss out on this adventure.
Tom Holland's Peter Parker was notably absent from the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement. While Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that there are a few surprising appearances in store, multiple reports have indicated that the MCU's iteration of Spider-Man won't be one of them. Fortunately, it seems the web-slinger will have a big role in Avengers: Secret Wars to compensate, but don't expect his storyline to be bright or optimistic.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man will reportedly fight against his multiversal counterparts in Avengers: Secret Wars
Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Peter Parker are rumored to be the only Marvel legacy characters to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. In normal circumstances, that would mean superhero fans worldwide would witness a friendly arachnid reunion between them and Tom Holland's Peter Parker. However, the collapse of the multiverse is anything but a normal circumstance.
According to insider James Mack, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men will fight against Tom's version of the wall-crawler. Fans always like to speculate who is the strongest among the three characters, and it seems we're about to find out the answer. Now, the biggest question to ask is, why would the friendly neighborhood heroes face each other?
For a long time, it has been rumored that we'll see Tom's Peter Parker bond with the Venom symbiote. Marvel itself teased that this storyline might eventually come to life during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home. So, what better film to make it a reality than Avengers: Secret Wars? After all, the wall-crawler first donned the black suit in the comic book world during the Secret Wars series.
The same source that reported on the fight between Tobey and Andrew's Peter Parkers against Tom's has revealed that the latter will be mind-controlled and under the symbiote's influence. This would explain why he'd try to fight anyone who stands in his way, even if they are his multiversal counterparts.
Tobey's Spider-Man has already used the black suit and knows how much it can mess with your mind. As such, he could prove to be instrumental in bringing Tom's Peter back to the right side of history. Furthermore, Andrew's iteration of the wall-crawler has always wanted to fight an alien, so it would be poetically fitting (and heartbreaking) to do so while simultaneously having to face a friend.
It has been reported that Marvel's new deal with Sony will allow the studio to use the "Spider-Man IP throughout all their [MCU] projects." That means villains like Venom (or the symbiote) could suddenly appear in big crossover movies such as Avengers: Secret Wars. Furthermore, other insiders, such as Cryptic HD Quality, agree that Tom's Spidey will get to wear the black suit after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
At this point, it seems all but confirmed that the youngest version of the web-slinger will fight his more experienced variants. Let's just hope that the three get the chance to team up afterward to put a definitive end to Doom's plans and maybe have one last swing across New York's skyline.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on Dec. 17, 2027.
