After the DC Comics event DC K.O., Air Wave, Kid Flash, and Stargirl came across two villains named Girder and Tarpit. The two appeared to be causing destruction but were actually protecting people. This isn’t shocking, but what was interesting was that one of them voiced their frustration about not being allowed to help when the universe was falling apart.
It’s understandable that the heroes wouldn’t trust their enemies, but Girder and Tarpit had a point, and the Justice League agreed. Knowing that the universe will need all the help they can get, they started an initiative to bring in some villains in hopes that they can be rehabilitated. Among the people to join them was Lex Luthor, who continues to bump heads with Batman over how he goes about things. In Justice League Unlimited No. 21, readers see that it was a good thing that Lex is on the team.
After being fed up with Luthor, Bruce grabs Lex’s hand. What was supposed to hurt him turned into the two receiving a vision, as many others did after DC K.O. It was the first time they saw something, and it was only because of their contact with each other. This leads to Batman and Luthor being forced to work together to investigate what they saw and to the recently released Justice League: Knight Vision Special No. 1.
After finding a trio of mercenaries selling alien tech, a trip to the Crooked House, and a fight with Prometheus (not the Titan), Luthor and Batman uncover a secret about the weapons. The mercs weren’t bringing just any alien technology to Prometheus. They are tools of Darkseid. That means someone on Earth is working for the Lord of Apokolips, but they don’t know who.
Readers learn that Darkseid lost the battle to Superman, but the war continued after DC K.O. You see, the Lord of Apokolips was holding tournaments throughout the multiverse, and each one was fueling him. If that wasn't bad enough, Darkseid says, “Once the infinite Earths fall…there will be a crisis of absolute proportions.”
Since Darkseid has his hands in so many multiverses, it would make sense that he’d have someone all over the place doing his bidding. And while he’s never been starved of people to work for him, I doubt it’s someone like Granny Goodness or Kalibak. It would be too obvious. That's why my guess is that someone within the Justice League is on Darkseid's side.
It’s not a bold take to say that one of the heroes is working for the enemy. It’s something that’s happened throughout comics for decades. The question we all need to ask ourselves is if they’re doing it willingly or not. If I had to guess, this will be tied to Cyborg and the vision he saw.
In New Titans (written by Tate Brombal), readers see that Cyborg is working on something in secret, and it involves Apokolips technology. It’s not a bad thing that he’s trying to save the world, but hiding it from his friends and teammates is telling. That leads me to believe that he’s working for Darkseid and doesn’t know it. It doesn’t help that his mechanical side is Apokolips tech.
Lastly, it should be noted that Cyborg threatened to attack Terra to keep his secret in Titans No. 36. This is unlike him and will likely cause him to abandon his friends since he believes his work is crucial to saving the world. However, for all we know, Darkseid is pulling his strings (or wires).
