The latest iteration of the DC Universe is finally here, and from what we've seen so far, it isn't afraid to make big changes when adapting its source material onto the big screen. While Superman perfectly captured the hero's spirit and optimism, it also shocked audiences by revealing that Kal-El's biological parents actually wanted their son to enslave humanity as a whole, going against their portrayal in comic book pages. That precedent alone indicates that many twists are awaiting on the horizon that very few will see coming. However, one thing remains consistent across any DC universe, and it is that Gotham needs a hero to protect it.
Audiences are eager to meet the DCU's version of Bruce Wayne and discover what type of Batman he will be. We've seen Ben Affleck portray a worn-down and violent version of the vigilante, while Robert Pattinson's interpretation leaned on the more hopeful side of the character. Fortunately, The Brave and the Bold will finally feature the new iteration of the Caped Crusader jumping into action and showcasing what type of hero he really is. The upcoming DCU movie will be all about Bruce Wayne teaming up with his son, Damian, to protect Gotham City, a concept never before seen in live-action. Now, it feels like the anticipated project is finally closer to becoming a reality thanks to a new production update.
Christina Hodson will write the DCU's Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold
As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson is set to write the Dark Knight's first standalone movie in the DCU, The Brave and the Bold. Hodson previously penned the script for Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) and worked on Bumblebee—two projects that were released to critical acclaim. Interestingly enough, The Brave and the Bold director Andy Muschietti already teamed up with writer Christina Hodson in 2023 to bring The Flash to life.

It is no secret that the Scarlet Speedster's solo movie was released to mixed reviews and a very low box office performance. However, it's worth pointing out that the last ever DCEU project underwent multiple rewrites and ending changes—a turbulent process that might've greatly impacted the film's quality. With a bit of luck, things will be different for The Brave and the Bold, and the duo of Andy Muschietti and Christina Hodson will be able to realize their vision without any last-minute changes.
The Hollywood Reporter also mentions that there's a possibility that Andy Muschietti won't ultimately direct the Dark Knight's upcoming DCU adventure. While still attached to the project, Muschietti could jump ship depending on schedules and availability. Coupled with the fact that a writer just joined the film, it's hard to imagine a world where The Brave and the Bold will be released anytime soon.
DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO James Gunn recently confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will be released after The Batman - Part II, which is set to premiere on October 1, 2027. That means that mid-to-late 2028 would be the earliest audiences would get to meet the new version of Bruce Wayne and his son (unless they make a cameo in another project). While it might be disappointing to learn we have a long wait ahead of us, it's also best for DC to take its time crafting the perfect movie for one of its most beloved characters.
Until The Brave and the Bold comes our way, Batman will take over the video game world in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Furthermore, Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne will return to the big screen after half a decade in The Batman - Part II. Besides, the Absolute Batman comic book series is about to start its long-awaited Scarecrow arc, and we can't wait to see how it pans out. All things considered, there will be more Batman coming our way soon, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
