Two Beetlejuice stars reunite 36 years after the film's release (and you didn't notice)

One Beetlejuice star who did not appear in the 2024 sequel reunited with "The Juice" himself over the weekend.

The world has once again been taken over by the wackiness of Betelgeuse. The larger-than-life bio-exorcist made his return to theaters last month for a sequel nearly four decades in the making, and it certainly exceeded expectations.

Michael Keaton was as delightful as ever as the undead demon, turning the world of the Deetz family upside down once more in another gothic adventure that only he could create. And audiences loved it, as the Tim Burton sequel grossed over $430 million at the box office, quadrupling the takings of the original 1988 movie. Don't you just love it when a cult classic becomes a global phenomenon?

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a moment in time, and one that was worth waiting for. But while it reunited Keaton and Burton, along with Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, not all of the original movie's stars returned. That didn't, however, stop two of them from crossing paths on TV screens this month.

Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin reunite on Saturday Night Live

In what may have flew somewhat under the radar, original Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton and Alec Baldwin briefly reunited on Saturday Night Live. Keaton was the host of the October 19 edition, which marked his fourth time hosting the show. However, Alec Baldwin also made an unexpected return to the show in that same episode.

The reunion between the Beetlejuice stars was overlooked as the two didn't interact until the end of the show. While Keaton appeared in a number of skits throughout the night, Baldwin was a part of the show's cold open, which parodied the Fox News interview between Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris and the station's Brett Baier, who repeatedly interrupted her. Baldwin portrayed Baier while Maya Rudolph played Harris in a skit that was extremely well-received.

However, a number of fans pointed out that SNL missed an opportunity not to feature Baldwin in Keaton's opening monologue, which had two of the show's regular cast members appear dressed as Betelgeuse. There is no doubt that it would have made for a moment to see the two actually share a conversation about Beetlejuice on-screen, specifically because the sequel is so popular right now.

Baldwin portrayed Adam Maitland in the 1988 movie who, along with wife Barbara Maitland (played by Geena Davis) were forced to watch a new family move into their home and redecorate it after their premature deaths. They then resorted to the infamous bio-exorcist to help them reclaim their home, unaware of the chaos that Betelgeuse would cause.

Baldwin and Davis did not return for the 2024 sequel as director Tim Burton wanted to tell a new story (and, as Davis herself pointed out, ghosts don't age), so it was written into the movie that the Maitlands found "a loophole" that allowed them to move on and find peace.

With that in mind, seeing Keaton and Baldwin cross paths in the same year on SNL was pretty special to fans of the original movie, even if the show could have come up with a better way to engineer a crossover between the two. Sure, this wasn't the first time they have seen each other since - the two famously crossed paths in 2011 when Keaton guest-starred on 30 Rock - but it still could have been more of a moment than it was.
