Beloved Marvel show may actually return for another season after all

With the help of viewers, this Marvel Studios project could go from a mini-series to getting a second season.

Pleasant surprises are always a good thing for viewers, but it’s even better for the creators and the studios that produce the projects. TV shows like Peacemaker and movies like Guardians of the Galaxy weren’t supposed to be the successes they were, but it was that success that resulted in them going from one-offs to complete franchises. Now we have projects that people will remember forever. If the stars align, we could see that happen with a relatively new Marvel project too.

The vast majority of Marvel Studios shows on Disney Plus have served as miniseries, with just one season produced. Although the studio has reportedly considered bringing some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series back for second seasons, only a few have successfully returned for another outing (Loki and animated shows What If...?, X-Men '97, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man). Now the studio plans on changing that with more ongoing series like Daredevil: Born Again. It sounds like another miniseries might join in on the fun, as there is a chance that Marvel Zombies could return for another season.

Marvel Zombies could be back for another season if people tune in

In a new interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel's Head of Streaming, Animation, and Television Brad Winderbaum revealed that there are plans for a second season of Marvel Zombies but that people need to watch it in order to guarantee that it happens, saying:

“Please, like, people have got to subscribe to Disney+ and watch this show. If that happens, they will get more. And we are excited. We’re ready.”

The show was initially envisioned as a miniseries, so all the talk of a second season ahead of its release surprised people. However, considering how Marvel Zombies ended, there are a lot of things to explore in a potential season 2.

The mini-series ended with a cliffhanger of epic proportions. We don’t know what’s going on with the world. Is Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) seeing things properly, and the world is back to normal, or is she blind to the zombies walking around her? If we had to guess, Earth is still a living Hell (or an undead one). If we’re lucky, we’ll get answers - which is a good thing. Beyond the storyline with Ms. Marvel, there are other tales to tell with characters we have and haven’t seen in the show yet.

Marvel Zombies has an opportunity to highlight characters that don’t currently have confirmed projects. How cool would it be if Wiccan, Speed, or Agatha Harkness saved the world? What if Death helps them because the balance of the universe has been thrown off? And what about the gods? Khonshu is still around and will need an avatar. What are the other gods doing? Are they hiding like they did during Thor: Love and Thunder?

Lastly, the Nova Corps may have blocked off Earth, but they’re no match for the Queen of the Dead, Wanda Maximoff. She may feel the need to expand her army to the rest of the galaxy. If that’s the case, we could see the Guardians of the Galaxy saving the day, or becoming the Ghoulians of the Galaxy (I do not regret that joke).

Calling Marvel Zombies a classic might be premature, but we can admit that it overachieved. No one could have expected this project to be as fun as it was. Bloody, funny, and violent, for sure. But people "zombied out" with all of the zombies shows we've had in recent years, and there have been a lot of comic book projects coming out this year. Thankfully, that hasn’t stopped people from watching Marvel Zombies and talking about how good it is. Maybe turning this into a show instead of a movie and dropping it all at once was the key. Either way, we'd take a season 2 anyday!

If Marvel Zombies doesn’t return, it would be disappointing, but the ending would still be satisfying. Sometimes people don’t get a happy ending. Not even the best of us like Kamala Khan.
