The first episode of Star Wars Resistance can now be viewed for free on the official Star Wars Kids YouTube channel, and it can be viewed in its entirety in the player below:
Created and produced by Dave Filoni, Star Wars Resistance originally aired on Disney XD, running for two seasons from 2018 to 2020, which are now both streaming on Disney Plus. Set shortly before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the acclaimed CGI animated series focuses on a clumsy and highly likable Resistance spy named Kazuda Xiono, who attempts to discover who is secretly working for the First Order onboard a massive fueling station known as the Colossus, where most of the episodes primarily take place.
Kazuda, who is colloquially known as Kaz, embarks on many fun adventures and encounters dozens of memorable characters throughout the two seasons of the show, with some of the most notable including the gruff mechanic Jarek Yeager, the skilled pilot Tamara Ryvora, and the Nikto engineer known as Neeku Vozo. Kaz is voiced by Christoper Sean, with the supporting voice cast including Scott Lawrence, Justin Ridge, Josh Brener, and Suzie McGrath, with Matthew Wood voicing Kylo Ren in the second season. Polygon Pictures served as the show’s main production company, working alongside CGCG, Inc., Lucasfilm, and Lucasfilm Animation.
The Star Wars series was praised for its humor, voice acting, characterization, and the way in which it tackled complex moral issues, with both seasons receiving Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Children's Program. It also won a Saturn Award in 2019. Therefore, it goes without saying that Resistance is one of the most memorable animated Star Wars shows to date, and it was highly praised by critics and fans alike.
Resistance is also notably less action-oriented than other Star Wars shows, since it takes place just before the First Order-Resistance War went into full swing. However, despite there only being a handful of battle scenes, there are plenty of exhilarating racing sequences, with Kaz piloting a racing starfighter called the Fireball throughout the series. And the series is also more comedy-focused than the majority of other animated Star Wars offerings, with Kaz’s clumsy antics often resulting in hilarious consequences.
If you never got the chance to watch Star Wars Resistance on Disney XD or Disney+ Plus, there has never been a better time to give it a go, as the first episode is now available for free on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel. And if you enjoy the episode, you can subscribe to Disney+ to watch the rest of the series at your own convenience.
