When it comes to any TV show or movie, you never know what will come of it. A project could be well-loved, make money, stream well, and still get canceled. However, the opposite can happen as well. There’s also the chance that unforeseen circumstances can throw a wrench into plans. This happens often in comic book projects. For example, we’ve been waiting for any good news about Mahershala Ali’s Blade for years. It’s become such a thing now that Ali doesn’t even want to discuss it.
When Marvel revealed the stars that would appear in Avengers: Doomsday, people were both excited and worried. They loved the names that they saw announced in that five-hour livestream, but they also wondered where others were. Among the missing characters and actors were Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight and the heroes from Eternals. They were among the major additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Phase Four, headlining their own projects, but there has yet to be any significant update about where they might return. And they aren't the only ones either. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige himself, some of these beloved characters could be returning sooner than you think.
When speaking with journalists, Feige was about whether we could see the likes of Moon Knight or the Eternals again in the future. As reported by Variety, he took the opportunity to tease the comebacks of many Multiverse Saga characters, potentially even including the ones that have reportedly had their projects or sequels cancelled.
"I don’t know that it’s any of the specific ones you just named, but yes, that is part of the plan: Characters we’ve introduced post-‘Endgame’ will pop up again in some of the upcoming movies and beyond. The fun of the comics is anyone popping up anywhere."
Feige is right about this, and it's something that comic book fans have known for years. Characters you love and hate can appear out of nowhere. If it’s done right, it becomes a welcome surprise. You can use the Illuminati's debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as an example of the MCU getting that right. Who would have thought that seeing Black Bolt was something that we needed?
During the conversation, Feige also made it a point not to reveal too much because saying the wrong thing can lead to unwanted consequences. That being said, with the anticipated arrival of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Secret Wars, there are likely going to be plenty of returning characters that we haven’t seen in a while. Could Marc Spector and the Eternals be among them? What about She-Hulk?

What's next for these characters?
Before the rest of this article concludes, let me be clear about something. I was a fan of Eternals in the MCU. Yes, there were many faults, and this story should have been told in a Disney Plus show instead of a film. Despite that, that doesn’t mean there isn’t value in the characters. However, it’s unclear where they fit in Marvel Studios’ plans. If anything, they can be defeated to show how powerful a character is. Other than that, I don’t see the point of them returning, at least not in this phase.
As for Moon Knight, he’s the garlic powder of unused characters. He works everywhere. He’s an entertaining and complex character with the superpowers to be an Avenger or a fighter used to show someone’s skills. Plus, everyone loves Oscar Isaac. Just knowing that there’s a possibility that he’ll return is a big deal. Hopefully, this leads to Moon Knight season 2. Although Marvel's Head of Television, Streaming and Animation Brad Winderbaum has suggested that there are other plans ahead for Moon Knight, it's good to know that he'll be back in some capacity.
As hopeful as this writer would like to be, we are getting ahead of ourselves. We are years away from Avengers: Secret Wars, and the MCU could be getting a reboot and recast after that. Nevertheless, this writer looks forward to seeing any of Marc Spector’s personalities or the Eternals in a future project. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to learn if and when that happens.
