Let's rewind time back to 2019. Avengers: Endgame had just been released, and it served as the culmination of the first saga set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back then, it was highly believed that superhero movies couldn't get any more ambitious, and while some still hold that thought to this date, Marvel will attempt to outdo itself anyway.

Avengers: Doomsday will mark the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga. Heroes we thought were long gone are about to make an explosive comeback, different universes will collide, and Doctor Doom will finally make his long-awaited MCU debut. Fan anticipation is at an all-time high, which means we're all eager to catch a small glimpse of the upcoming crossover. Fortunately, shooting is already underway, and it won't be long before Marvel starts properly promoting the movie. Meanwhile, we have the set photos to look up to.

Even a project as secretive as Avengers: Doomsday is bound to have the occasional set photo leaked online. Marvel Studios had managed to keep everything under wraps surprisingly well for a long time, but the streak is finally broken. A new look at the movie is here, and it reveals that heroes who had never shared the big screen before will assemble at long last.

First Avengers: Doomsday set photo showcases The Thing, US Agent, and Falcon

The first Avengers: Doomsday set photo has made its way online, and it showcases Danny Ramirez's Falcon, Ebon Moss-Bachrach's The Thing, and Wyatt Russell's US Agent in what appears to be a huge ship. After all, there's a control panel in the middle of the room, which is slightly reminiscent of that of the Helicarrier from the first Avengers movie.

While the reveal of the three heroes coming together is exciting in itself (as they hadn't shared the screen before), there's also another big surprise hidden in plain sight. If you look at the bottom right corner of the picture, you'll also notice a black boot, which appears to be from the Black Panther costume.

While we're likely looking at Letitia Wright's version of the character (who is confirmed to appear in the film), it's also worth keeping in mind that several reports indicate audiences might see a multiversal variant of T'Challa at some point in the upcoming Avengers movies. There's even leaked Marvel concept art that indirectly confirms these rumors. So, could this be our first (slight) look at this new hero?

The revelation that Falcon and US Agent are working together is certainly interesting as well. The ending of Captain America: Brave New World revealed that Sam Wilson's Captain America would assemble a new group of Avengers, and that Joaquin Torres' Falcon would be a part of it. On the other side of the coin, US Agent is a member of the recently formed New Avengers. However, the post-credits scene of Thunderbolts* indicated that these two teams wouldn't get along. There was even a report that claimed the reason Doom would succeed would be because Earth's Mightiest Heroes would be divided into smaller groups, all fighting an uncoordinated battle. However, it seems that won't be the case.

So what could've happened in order to bring the "real" Avengers, the New Avengers, and the Fantastic Four together? Well, the unanimously accepted theory online is that all these different heroes are trying to stop an upcoming incursion that risks destroying the MCU as a whole. And how will they do that? By traveling to the parallel reality where Monica Rambeau is stuck, and getting her back home before it's too late.

The interdimensional trip could eventually lead to the big Avengers and X-Men encounter fans have been eager to see for decades now. The only question remaining is: Will these two groups come together to prevent the destruction of the multiverse as a whole? Or will they have some differences to settle first, before becoming a team? Well, there's only one way to find out.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on Dec. 18, 2026.
