Back in 2015, Marvel captured lightning in a bottle thanks to Netflix's Daredevil. To this date, Matt Murdock's original adventure is still regarded as one of the best superhero shows ever created, thanks to its intricate storyline, well-choreographed action sequences, and charming characters who want to make the most of a city filled with blood and violence. To say Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 and 2 had a high bar to reach would be a big understatement, but it seems the latter might've just reached it.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4 is finally here, and it is set to have big repercussions for the entire street-level corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Punches were thrown, bullets were shot, and when the dust finally settled, audiences found themselves at the edge of their seats. The latest episode of the Disney+ series gives us no time to breathe, as it feels like one huge ticking bomb that concludes in the most catastrophic way possible.

It's enough to take a quick glimpse at reactions online to see that fans unanimously agree this is the best the Man Without Fear has been since the end of his Netflix series, and the episode's rating reflects that notion.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 4 sets off a new MCU IMDb rating record

Matt Murdock just reached impressive new heights. Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4, titled "Gloves Off," has a rating of 9.6 on IMDb, which is the highest out of any MCU Disney+ show. For comparison, Loki season 2, episode 6, titled "Glorious Purpose," comes in a close second, with a rating of 9.5. And just to give a bit more perspective on how impressive this achievement is, the highest-rated episode of the original Netflix Daredevil series was the finale of season 3, "A New Napkin," which also had a rating of 9.6.

That's right, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 just topped its predecessor.

Audiences and critics alike praise Bullseye's involvement in the recent episode, with his (very violent) opening sequence being a complete standout. Furthermore, the tension was palpable whenever the iconic supervillain crossed paths with Matt Murdock, especially given their very complicated history. Matt is a big believer in redemption, but will he be able to forgive the man who killed Foggy Nelson? That idea alone makes for a very compelling arc. But the cherry on top? The episode had an absolutely shocking ending that took audiences by surprise.

What makes the reception to the latest episode all the more exciting is that early reactions to Daredevil: Born Again season 2 claim that the four episodes to come are even better than the ones we have witnessed. From this point onwards, every new release is presumed to be better than the last, and if what we've seen is already impressive, then the finale could be one of the best episodes of Marvel television as a whole.

Now that we're heading into the second half of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, big surprises are bound to take place. Jessica Jones' return is just around the corner, and we're bound to see more of fan-favorites Foggy Nelson and James Wesley (albeit in flashback sequences). Furthermore, Brett Mahoney is set to make an appearance, and Wilson Fisk is likely to be more relentless than ever before. The future is looking grim for the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and we couldn't be any more excited.

Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
