Episode 6 of Daredevil: Born Again showed us all how things are starting to heat up in New York. After Muse’s blood-soaked murals started appearing, Wilson Fisk had to do something before the public began to notice there was a serial killer during his watch. With an already boiling hatred for vigilantes, Fisk assembled the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Of course, with the Kingpin, nothing was as straightforward as it seemed.
Each of the people he pitched for this team has a dark past. As Police Commissioner Gallo said: “This is every bad apple in the barrel.” Among the spoiled fruit is a character named Cole North.
"And due to the extreme nature of these crimes, this task force will have special powers and privileges. Like overtime. And… no body cameras."Wilson Fisk "Daredevil Born Again"
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Daredevil: Born Again, Sgt. Cole North is a former cop from Chicago who became a detective in three years. However, he’s here in New York because he, as Fisk puts it, lost it all. North says he saw a drug dealer give an 11-year-old kid some Oxy and then encouraged that drug dealer to tell the truth about what he was doing. We can assume the encouragement was violent, which is why he was transferred to New York. This is nothing like the character he’s based on, one from Marvel Comics.
Cole North’s first appearance came in Daredevil: Know Fear, written by Chip Zdarsky (Batman), with art by Marco Checchetto (Ultimate Spider-Man) and colors by Sunny Gho (X-Men: Reign of X).

The Cole North of Marvel Comics, explained
Cole North left his wife and child in Chicago after he accidentally killed a kid while on duty. After going to New York, his only request was that he was given a partner who wasn’t dirty. His request was granted, and he was assigned a partner named Fred Higgins. Their first task was to find and arrest Daredevil, who killed a criminal. It wasn’t intentional, but it’s still a crime, and justice had to be served.
Months later (and after Daredevil’s arrest), Cole North starts to see things differently. He and Daredevil became allies and fought against Wilson Fisk (Devil’s Reign) and, later, the Hand (The Red Fist Saga). Cole is currently working with Foggy Nelson at his law firm.
Having read all of this, it must seem weird that Cole North is a crooked cop in Daredevil: Born Again. Yes, things differ from the source material to shows and movies. However, this writer doubts that’s the case with Cole in this Disney Plus show
There’s a reason that Cherry knows everything that’s happening within the NYPD. He has an informant and this writer’s guess is that it could be Cole North telling Cherry everything he sees. The things that happened to him in Chicago could be exaggerated to get him on the inside and friendly with New York’s most deplorable officers. Or maybe they did happen, and he’s looking for redemption. It could also be wishful thinking.
When you’re a fan of a character, it’s difficult to see them acting unlike what drew you to them. That’s happening for this writer with Cole North. In Marvel Comics, he's a stand-up guy who knows that carrying a badge means the standards are higher for him. So far, that isn’t the case in Daredevil: Born Again. He’s shown that he's like the rest of the crooked, overzealous cops we’re seeing. Only time will tell if Cole North is a dirtbag or if there’s more than what we’re seeing.
