Marvel Studios has many exciting titles on the horizon in 2026. But before we begin preparing for the likes of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, we get another extremely exciting offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's TV arm instead. Yes, of course, we are talking about Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
The series premiered on Disney Plus last spring and, after receiving praise from all audiences, it looks to recreate the success this time around. Charlie Cox is officially back as Daredevil in the revival of the Netflix series and the second season promises even more excitement as he reunites with more another major star from the Netflix days - his The Defenders co-star Krysten Ritter, who reprises her role as Jessica Jones.
But Jessica isn't the only Netflix character making their debut on season 2 of the revival series.
First look at Royce Johnson's return as Brett Mahoney in Daredevil: Born Again
Royce Johnson is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The star, who previously appeared in all three seasons of Netflix's Daredevil as Sgt. Brett Mahoney (as well as episodes of Jessica Jones and The Punisher), will be back in action in the upcoming second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Better yet, he has shared the first look at his return to the world of the MCU, sharing an Instagram reel which features a number of images from the set, including one with Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox.
Check it out below:
The premise for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 involves the titular hero recruiting heroes and allies in a bid to stand against the Kingpin. The convicted felon has been abusing his power as mayor, going against heroes and attempting to bring down anyone who threatens to expose his lies. The Devil of Hell's Kitchen is at the top of that list. Although he had temporarily agreed to leave Matt Murdock be as long as he never donned the mask again, Daredevil's return ended that truce.
That's where Detective Sgt. Brett Mahoney comes in. A longtime ally of Matt's, the two knew each other through Foggy Nelson, who would always get intel from him. Over the course of the original series, Mahoney became a reliable ally for Nelson, Murdock, and Page, aiding them in their investigations and being one of the only real law enforcement officials that could be relied on during a time when the Kingpin had corrupt eyes and ears everywhere. He also acted as an ally to Daredevil, with the two having somewhat of a Batman / Commissioner Gordon-esque working relationship.
The character's return in Daredevil: Born Again could very well lead to him joining forces with Daredevil once again in a bid to stop the Kingpin from his corrupt plan to enact martial law in New York. It's unclear whether he actually knows that Matt is the man behind the mask, but considering that he is a staunch ally of both - and an actual decent person - he will undoubtedly be a formidable addition to that team. And that is particularly true given that he will want to get justice for Foggy - who was killed in the first season of Born Again at the request of Vanessa Fisk.

Royce Johnson is just the most recent actor from the Marvel Netflix shows to make his official debut in the MCU. While the classic shows were retroactively canonized (thanks to Echo), Born Again is what makes it all official, acting as a sequel to the original Daredevil series (and all of its spinoffs). He joins Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ayelet Zurer, Wilson Bethel, and Susan Varon from Daredevil, as well as The Punisher's Jon Bernthal, and Jessica Jones' Krysten Ritter in officially making the jump from the Marvel Netflix era to the Disney Plus revival. We can't wait to see what kind of role he will play in season 2.
With that, fans are also hoping to see Cox's other Defenders co-stars Mike Colter and Finn Jones reprise their roles as Luke Cage and Iron Fist. After all, if Daredevil needs heroes, why not choose from the pool he already knows. He now has Jessica and Mahoney by his side once again; the other two would be the icing on the cake!
