Saladin Ahmed began his run of Daredevil by putting Matt Murdock against the Seven Deadly Sins of Hell. Each demon put him against heroes like She-Hulk and Wolverine as well as people he loved like Foggy Nelson and Ben Urich. One of them even possessed Wilson Fisk (shocking to no one, the demon Greed took hold of him).
Like all the others, Daredevil defeated Greed (Daredevil No. 12). However, after the exorcism, the former Kingpin did the weirdest thing ever. He dropped to his knees in front of his sworn enemy, put his hand out, and said, “Bless me, Father. For I have sinned.”
The unusual behavior doesn’t end there. In the next issue, while pleading for forgiveness, Fisk kissed Matt’s hand like he would any other person of the cloth. He does this to a man he’s sworn to kill more times than most villains. You can only imagine the torment he was going through at the hands of Greed to make him do that. After that, the Kingpin disappeared. Not even Elektra could find him.
Well, after some time, Fisk has returned, but he’s changed and not for the better. It looks like he's killing people in the name of God.

In Matt and Elektra's line of work, finding criminals murdered isn't odd. What is odd is the messages written in blood that say “Chastening of the Almighty.” Matt points out that this scripture means that God’s correction is a blessing. That means whoever’s killing people feels like they're doing God's work. It wasn’t until Matt recognized the scent of the blood and the handwriting above the second victim that he realized his nemesis was behind the killings.
If you were keeping up with this run of Daredevil, it was easy to guess that Wilson Fisk was behind this. It made sense that someone like him would take the idea of being saved from a demon and turn it into a divine calling for killing sinners. Greed may have been his greatest sin, but pride is a close second. He may think he’s doing divine work, but there's no redemption for him.
Also, considering how supernatural this series has been, there’s no guarantee another devil isn’t leading Fisk’s actions. If there's one person that a being from the pits of Hell would love, it's the former Kingpin and Mayor of New York. And since Hell likely has unfinished business with The Man Without Fear, using his worst enemy to get at him would be a genius play.
