There has been no better time to be a fan of superhero video games. Exciting titles like Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are just around the corner, story updates about the highly anticipated Marvel's Spider-Man 3 were revealed, and rumor has it that Rocksteady will go back to basics and develop a single-player game featuring the Caped Crusader. If only Insomniac revealed more about Marvel's Wolverine, then we'd be all set.
However, there's no denying that DC is falling a bit behind in the video game department. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed to meet expectations, Monolith's Wonder Woman was canceled, and DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn confirmed that "any new title would be at least a couple of years away" during an interview with GamesRadar. Fortunately, there's a silver lining amidst all the bad news, as a previously unrevealed project was revealed ahead of time.
Injustice 3 confirmed to be in development by Superman and Green Lantern voice actors
During Fan Expo Canada 2025, fans had the chance to speak with Superman voice actor Brendan Borrow, who confirmed that Injustice 3 is in the works. This reveal was immediately published on social media, and after the post gained some traction, it was swiftly deleted. Adding fuel to the fire, Green Lantern voice actor Phil LaMarr also stated that the highly anticipated game is a reality.
It's worth keeping in mind that NetherRealm Studios (the masterminds behind the Injustice saga) officially ended support for their latest title, Mortal Kombat 1, in May 2025. This all but confirms that the developer is ready to start full production on its next big project, which could very well be set in DC's flagship franchise.
Eight years ago, players worldwide fought against Superman's regime and defeated Brainiac during the events of Injustice 2. While the game featured two different endings, it's unanimously agreed that the "canon" outcome is the one where Batman and Supergirl team up to form a new iteration of the Justice League, and Superman is imprisoned in the Phantom Zone. Back then, Clark Kent teased that he would be back despite his entrapment, and it seems NetherRealm will finally deliver on that promise.
With Brainiac out of the picture, Injustice 3 would be the perfect time for Darkseid to steal the spotlight. While the Lord of Apokolips has been a playable character in previous entries of the franchise, he hasn't had a major role in the story yet. Darkseid's introduction could be the reason why Batman gets Superman out of the Phantom Zone, as any help would definitely be needed. Furthermore, this could also allow the Kryptonian to go back to the right side of history and turn into a hero yet again (a storyline that fans have been eager to see in the Injustice world for quite some time now).
Unfortunately, Injustice 3 might still be a long way off as NetherRealm just wrapped up its work on Mortal Kombat 1 and James Gunn confirmed that any new DC video game is years away. However, it's nice to know that the highly anticipated title is a reality, according to its voice actors.
It remains to be seen whether the upcoming game will fit into the bigger DCU narrative (given that James Gunn promised every DC project across different media would be connected from this point onwards), but chances are Injustice 3 will still take place in its own reality, separate from any other story. That could give it the creative freedom to tie up the saga in a satisfactory way, and with a bit of luck, fans will be able to watch the Justice League unite one last time to fight against a bigger threat.
