It looks like DC Studios is going ahead with a show featuring one of their most underrated villains!
As Supergirl is preparing to hit the big screens, DC Studios is intent on building James Gunn’s new DC Universe movie and TV slate. That includes a Superman sequel, the upcoming Lanterns show, and Clayface later this year.
Speaking on the red carpet for the Supergirl premiere in Brazil, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran shared an update on future DC projects, including an intriguing one for HBO.
"You know we're going to do The Brave and the Bold, which brings Batman into the DCU. We've talked about the Gorilla Grodd show for HBO that we'll start shooting this year. That's big news, by the way. I probably shouldn't have said that."

This seems to reference the planned Superman spinoff focused on Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) as he travels across the world for stories. The show appears to be based on an acclaimed 2019-2020 comic where Jimmy would visit Gorilla City.
First introduced in 1959, Gorilla City is a hidden African nation where an alien spaceship crashed, imbuing the gorillas with superintelligence and other powers. Grodd was a ruthless warlord who would become a top enemy of the Flash, using his psychic powers to try to conquer the world.
Grodd was a character on The CW's The Flash series, and the HBO show will push him more to the forefront. That can be a great way to boost the character.

Are we getting a new Justice League?
Obviously, a major question for Safran was whether the Justice Gang from Superman was going to expand into the Justice League. His answer indicates it’ll happen, just not yet.
“We know eventually you head in that direction, but we really are just talking about those movies that we've announced and those projects that we've announced… But in terms of what goes on beyond that, we'll talk about that when the time is right. But it's really important for us, like with everything, to get the scripts right, to get the story right. We're not in any rush. We want to do it right. We want to do it well. We want the stories to be crafted in a beautiful fashion."
Safran praised Gunn as a “creative visionary” who he trusts to keep guiding the DC Universe in a bold direction, and fans should be excited for what’s coming next. It is logical that we'll get the League down the road, but Safran and Gunn don't want to repeat the mistake of rushing into things too soon. As he says, they're interested in quality, not content, for numerous projects at once, and that should make their next moves more involved for everyone.
