There's no doubt that this was the summer of Superman, and the successfully rebooted superhero franchise is looking to take over the rest of the year, too. Superman, which comes from writer-director James Gunn and stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, hit theaters in July 2025 and quickly proved itself as not only an action-packed and endearing movie that fans loved, but a real commercial slam-dunk for the new DC Universe. The movie bested Man of Steel as the biggest opening weekend and highest domestic box office gross for a standalone Superman movie.

Beyond Corenswet as the lovable Clark Kent and powerful Superman, the movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the Daily Planet's hands-down best reporter and Clark's love interest, and Nicholas Hoult as Superman's biggest enemy Lex Luthor. The trio were a match made in heaven to bring Superman to life, as evident by their electric chemistry all throughout their extensive promotional tour. We can't wait to see them back in action in the future.

However, before we can even begin to get excited for what the future holds for Superman and the DC Universe, one of this summer's hottest blockbusters looks to extend its success streak with its releases on digital, home video, and streaming. Speaking of which, when can fans look forward to rewatching Superman whenever they want on HBO Max?

Superman will reportedly release on HBO Max in late September or early October 2025

While Warner Bros. hasn't announced the official Superman streaming release date on HBO Max as of this writing, Comic Book Resources reports that the movie could be hitting the streaming service before the end of September 2025. If Superman doesn't fly onto our HBO Max lists in September, the streaming release could also happen sometime in early October 2025.

Based on the release patterns of other Warner Bros. movies, which have often arrived on HBO Max ahead of their Blu-ray and DVD releases, Superman could reasonably arrive on the streamer as soon as Sept. 19, which would be a few days before the Sept. 23 home video release. As CBR notes, both The Minecraft Movie and Sinners debuted on HBO Max just four days before their DVDs and Blu-rays hit the shelves. However, Mickey 17 arrived on streaming nearly two weeks after its home video release, meaning October is still an option for Superman.

There's a chance that Warner Bros. could allow the digital, which happened on Aug. 15, and the home video release to ride out a while longer. After all, there's little incentive to pick up a copy of the movie on Blu-ray, DVD, or 4K if you can watch it whenever you want on HBO Max. Not to mention, Peacemaker season 2 is currently rolling out on HBO Max with the finale set for Oct. 9. Maybe Superman's streaming debut will arrive in early October to coincide and further boost the DC titles.

With each passing day, week, and month, fans have grown more impatient to watch the movie again, and even get their hands on any possible deleted scenes or bloopers. Hopefully, some exciting announcements will be made very soon about the special features we can dive into and, more importantly, when everyone can enjoy a second helping of Superman on streaming this fall.

In the meantime, Superman is now available to purchase on VOD, with its DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD release set for Sept. 23.
