No matter how hard Batman tries to protect Gotham, there will always be another madman who will attempt to rule over the city. That's why audiences worldwide knew that The Riddler was just the start of a new wave of problems in the universe that director Matt Reeves created. Ever since The Batman was released in 2022, audiences worldwide have patiently waited for the World's Greatest Detective to put on his cape again and jump into action in a sequel. Unfortunately, it hasn't exactly been smooth gliding so far.
The Batman - Part II was originally scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025. However, it was eventually delayed to October 1, 2026, and then pushed back another year to 2027. During this time, superhero fans were waiting for any tease about who the main antagonist would be or who else would star in the movie. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. decided to do its best Batman impression and just disappeared when no one was watching.
We were all kept in the dark about the Caped Crusader's upcoming adventure, and some even believed the movie wouldn't even see the light of day. Fortunately, the update that had eluded us for the past four years is finally here.
Production for The Batman 2 has officially started
The Batman - Part II has finally started production in Liverpool, England. A set video has revealed that the movie will take place during winter, while set pictures tease that a blue Batsuit is on its way. Furthermore, Matt Reeves welcomed new cast members on his social media pages.

Scarlett Johansson—better known for portraying Black Widow in the MCU—has joined The Batman - Part II in an unconfirmed role. However, it has been heavily reported that she will be playing Gilda Dent, the wife of Harvey Dent. Speaking of the infamous District Attorney, Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan is confirmed to be bringing Harvey to life in the upcoming DC film. Additionally, Charles Dance—who portrayed Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones—has also joined the cast of The Batman - Part II, and it has been rumored that he'll be playing Harvey's alcoholic father, Christopher Dent.
During an interview with Deadline, Sebastian Stan stated that his portrayal of Harvey Dent will allow him to play "many roles" in The Batman - Part II. Furthermore, Stan mentioned that he's "trying to keep surprising" himself when it comes to the villain's look, but he's still working closely with the hair and makeup teams to craft the character's design.

Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry will also appear in the upcoming DC Elseworlds film, though their roles are being kept under wraps. Fans have theorized that Henry could be either Harvey Bullock or Lucius Fox, though nothing is set in stone just yet. Furthermore, reports indicate that Dr. Arkham could make a small appearance in the film, and Koch could be an ideal candidate to play him.
A video taken near the set of The Batman - Part II gave us a small glimpse of an action scene in which the Caped Crusader is on top of a moving police car. Beyond that, not much has been revealed about the upcoming DC Elseworlds film, but now that production is finally underway, it shouldn't be long before more official announcements come our way.
The Batman - Part II will be released on Oct. 1, 2027.
