It looks like the new Superman movie will boast an appearance from a former DCEU actor, just not the one fans may expect!

Anticipation is through the roof for Superman, opening July 11. James Gunn is kicking off the new DC Cinematic Universe with a bold new take on the Man of Steel. This pretty much scraps the entire previous DCEU save for The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker (which, not surprisingly, were both created by Gunn).

This means the new DCU won't be boasting Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, or the rest of the other DCEU actors. It makes sense given the DCEU was pretty much a mess with a couple of bright spots, but otherwise a lot of poor movies.

Superman is kicking this off with David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Fans are also eager to see Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

However, it turns out an original DCEU actor will be appearing in Superman and it's one that should be no surprise to fans of Gunn!

A DCEU and DC Universe star has an unlikely role in Superman

Speaking to Comicbook.com, James Gunn shared the news that Jennifer Holland will be appearing in Superman. Well, "appearing" is a stretch as she's voicing one of the robots in the Fortress of Solitude. Those robotic helpers aid him on his missions with the trailers showing them hoisting a wounded Superman while battling enemies.

Holland is best known for her role as Emilia Harcourt, the ARGUS agent who first appeared in The Suicide Squad. She reprised the role for a bigger turn in Peacemaker and made cameos in Shazam: Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. She is one of the few DCEU actors who will continue to have a presence in the new DC Universe in the same role, but this cameo appearance in Superman is unexpected.

The casting of Holland was no problem, given that she and Gunn happened to be married. Gunn added that Holland won't be credited for the minor role that he  "recorded her on [his] phone" to give the voice to a robot who is "not really interested in what #4 is saying."

The other robots are voiced by actors also connected to Gunn. They include Pom Klementieff and Michael Rooker, who respectively played Mantis and Yondu in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The fourth is voiced by Alan Tudyk, making it his fourth DCCU role (so far), having voiced Clayface, Dr. Phosphorus, and Will Magnus in Creature Commandos.

It's expected Holland will return as Harcourt in Peacemaker's second season and perhaps show up now and then in the new DC Universe, making her one of the only DCEU stars to play a regular role in the new DC Universe. Her role as a robot in Superman is a fun cameo that Gunn clearly enjoyed working in as an Easter Egg for fans to listen to when watching the new Superman.

Superman premieres in theaters July 11.
