It looks like Marvel may be planning the team-up fans would want even if they have to jump through legal hoops to do it!
Fans of Spider-Man are naturally eager for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the coming fourth film starring Tom Holland as the beloved Wall-Crawler. With the character a key part of the MCU, the question is whether he can meet some other heroes, such as Daredevil or more of the Avengers.
In his monthly Q&A on The Cosmic Circus, Alex Perez dropped the insider news that there’s one specific character and it’s one perfect for a team-up!
“This is very, very early… But Deadpool is the top one thrown around. The logistics aren’t “impossible,” but very, very tricky and difficult given the current nature of Sony’s deal. But if anyone could pull it off, it’s Ryan Reynolds.”
Obviously, this would be a dream team-up for fans. It’s the marriage of two billion-dollar franchises as well as two characters who can gel nicely. In the comics, Spider-Man and Deadpool are known for their quick quips and often entangle themselves in wild situations amid their banter. There’s a clash of the responsible Peter Parker and the ever-irreverent Wade Wilson that always leads to fun and should be on the big screen.

There is the issue of the studio conflicts that Perez alludes to. To sum up a complex situation, Sony still owns the rights to Spider-Man and partners with Marvel to use him in the MCU while they tried (and failed) to build up their own cinematic “Spider-Verse.” That’s not mentioning how Deadpool was part of the X-Men deal that was owned by 20th Century Fox, keeping them out of the MCU until Disney bought Fox in 2019.
This means that getting Spider-Man and Deadpool together requires a few studio hoops to jump through. However, Sony has to see the potential in such a team-up in terms of box office, and Reynolds has a way of winning people over (which is how he got Deadpool made in the first place).
It’d be a great movie, as it’s easy to imagine Deadpool firing off quips at the other Spider-Man movies and actors, with some elements from the comics tossed in as well. A big obstacle would be working this into Reynolds’s always-busy schedule and finding the right story rather than just a blatant cash grab. With so many projects already in the works, trying to get this even as a stand-alone movie would be a logistical challenge bigger than Deadpool & Wolverine.
But it sounds like Marvel wants it and we all know fans do, so the chances of the Wall-Crawler and the Merc With the Mouth meeting on screen aren’t as impossible as they may sound!
The Spider-Man and Deadpool movies are streaming on Disney+.
