Marvel fans all over the world are thrilled at the prospect of more Peter Parker, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is delivering on it. It was always going to be a larger-than-life affair but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is shaping up to be even bigger than that, with box office records potentially about to be shattered. That's how larger-than-life we're going here.
Tom Holland is back, reprising his role as our Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man for his fourth outing in his list of solo MCU movies, and that is just scratching the surface of the exciting things about Brand New Day. We also have The Punisher, The Hulk, The Hand, and so many more surprises in the film, as well as the potential resolution to Peter and MJ's amnesia saga.
However, fans have also been worried that we might see the end of some beloved MCU characters. If you're worried about that too, then read on to find out if the brand new film features any casualities.

Spider-Man comes close to dying but he survives
None of the main characters in Spider-Man: Brand New Day die but there are a couple close calls. MJ is thrown off the roof when she is possessed by Sadie Sink's mystery character (a.k.a. Jean Grey) but Spider-Man manages to rescue her. Bill Metzger, from the Department of Damage Control, also comes extremely close after angering Sink's character; although he vanishes in the climax, it is made clear that he isn't dead and he also isn't in police custody.
The person who comes closest to death in the movie is none other than Spider-Man himself. When attempting to appeal to Sink's character, he hears The Punisher firing a bullet from his very, very large gun across the water. He quickly spins into action and pivots Jean out of the way, taking the bullet himself. It's an emotional moment as Peter very quickly starts bleeding out, which leads to Jean possessing him, making him breathe and essentially keeping him alive until his injury begins to heal to such an extent that he's no longer in danger.
When Peter is out of the woods, Jean frees him from her mind control and takes the bus out of town, heading out into the world and away from New York City. It's highly likely that she will find her way to a certain school with a certain professor but, right now, the main thing is that she is free from Damage Contol's grip.
As for why Jean went down this villainous path to begin with? That's where the film's only major death comes in.
The death of Jean's sister ultimately forced her in a different direction
All throughout Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jean Grey was searching for someone. It turns out that this person was Sara Grey, her beloved sister who also shared her innate mutant abilities. Unfortunately, it turns out that Damage Control killed her while trying to extract those psychic abilities. Although they attempt to do the same to Jean as well, she manages to overwhelm their systems, showcasing the full extent of her power.
Jean attempts to kill Metzger for what he did, but after spending some time in Spider-Man's head, she realized how different her life would have been if her and her sister had been truly loved enough by their parents. And with that, she made the decision to do good - saving Peter's life instead of taking Metzger's, honoring her sister in the process.
While Spider-Man: Brand New Day avoided killing the main characters of the movie off, the single death that did transpire in the film ended up being its most pivotal moment. All through the movie, Jean searched for her sister, believing her to be alive; the desperation causing her to to do some dreadful things. But in the end, she chose to honor Sara, leaving her quest for revenge behind and choosing the hope and love that the two of them were simply denied for being who they are. And the love that she felt inside Spidey's mind may have just saved her life, too.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially arrived in movie theaters.
