Jean Grey - Confirmed

With the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sadie Sink officially joined the MCU as the new Jean Grey. The Stranger Things actress took the mantle of the mutant telepath after Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner played her in live-action cinema.

Sink's character is set to return in the MCU’s X-Men movie, as well as Avengers: Secret Wars. Given Jean's reputation as a core member of the X-Men, chances are that she will be a main character in the MCU's upcoming movie. Even Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige told Variety that Jean will have "immense significance" in the franchise going forward.

Emma Frost - Confirmed

Ready or Not actress Samara Weaving has officially joined the MCU as the new Emma Frost. Mad Men actress January Jones previously portrayed the telepathic mutant as a villain in X-Men: First Class.

Like in Fox's X-Men films, Emma Frost started in the comics as a member of the evil Hellfire Club. However, the character's icy heart melted in the comics, and she joined the X-Men as one of its leading figures. It is unclear whether Emma will appear in the MCU movie as a member or an enemy of the X-Men.

Cyclops - Confirmed

Just days after Sadie Sink debuted in Brand New Day, Marvel found the actor to play her true love and the X-Men's leader in the field. Deadline reported that Marvel was eyeing Heartstopper star Kit Connor to portray Cyclops in the MCU. Connor appeared alongside the X-Men cast at Disney D23.

Alongside Jean, Cyclops seems set to be a crucial member of the new X-Men. Fans will still see actor James Marsden return as Cyclops at least one more time in Avengers: Doomsday.

Storm - Confirmed

After years of fancasting, the MCU has found its Mistress of the Elements. Marvel has cast actress Maya Boyd as Storm in the new X-Men movie. Following her casting announcement at Disney D23, Boyd wrote on Instagram, “It’s an honor to be your Storm.”

Unlike most of the movie’s main cast, Boyd was a relatively unknown actor in the film industry before she landed her MCU role. In fact, she had only performed in Broadway theater productions, specifically Merrily We Roll Along and & Juliet.

Beast - Unconfirmed

So far, actors Kelsey Grammer and Nicholas Hoult have portrayed the bright blue fuzzball in film. Though Grammer will return as Beast in Avengers: Doomsday, it looks like Marvel is looking for someone else to play him afterward. Casting for the new Beast hasn't been confirmed yet, but a couple of prominent names have been dropped so far.

Industry scooper Jeff Sneider previously reported that Marvel is considering Peter Claffey for the role. Claffey became a household name portraying Ser Duncan the Tall in HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The insider also stated that Beef actor Charles Melton was being considered for the role.

Rogue - Confirmed

Rumors about who will play Rogue have brought up a variety of names. These include Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Odessa A'Zion (Marty Supreme), and Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus). It was finally confirmed at D23 that Obsession star Inde Navarrette will play Rogue in the X-Men movie.

Navarrette previously revealed that she met with Jake Schreier about a potential role. However, she had expressed interest in portraying the shapeshifter Mystique in the movie, making her casting as Rogue a huge surprise for many.

Professor X - Confirmed

Who are the X-Men without their founder, Professor X? It was revealed at D23 that Kraven the Hunter star Christopher Abbott will portray the new Charles Xavier in the MCU. Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy previously portrayed Professor X in multiple films, with the former set to reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday.

Mr. Sinister - Confirmed

Despite being one of the X-Men's most iconic adversaries, Mr. Sinister hasn’t made a live-action film debut after years of on-and-off plans by Fox. However, Kevin Feige announced at D23 that Star Wars actor Adam Driver will play Mr. Sinister, a.k.a. Nathaniel Milbury, in the next X-Men movie.

In a pre-recorded video, Driver told the audience at D23, “Kevin [Feige] and I had been talking for years about my joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think we finally found the perfect film.”

Magneto - Unconfirmed

As the X-Men's longest-running adversaries, Magneto appearing in the MCU seems like a no-brainer. Sir Ian McKellen is set to play Magneto in Avengers: Doomsday, but rumors suggest that Marvel is looking for another actor to take his place after the film.

Scooper ApocHorseman initially stated that Adam Driver would play the Master of Magnetism. However, Driver’s casting as Mr. Sinister has left Magneto’s future in the MCU up for debate. Given that Sinister is set to be a major villain in the next X-Men movie, it could be a while before fans see another actor play Magneto.

Mystique - Unconfirmed

It hasn't been confirmed whether Mystique will be a part of the MCU's X-Men movie. However, after meeting with director Jake Schreier about a potential role, Obsession star Inde Navarrette expressed interest in portraying the shapeshifting Mystique in the movie. It is unclear whether Navarrette has been officially cast in the film.

While Mystique has been one of the X-Men's iconic villains, she has been portrayed as an antihero on film by Jennifer Lawrence, who inherited the role from Rebecca Romijn. The latter is set to appear as Mystique in Avengers: Doomsday.

The MCU’s X-Men movie will premiere in theaters on May 5, 2028.
