The Marvel Games division has been on a roll lately thanks to acclaimed releases such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Marvel Rivals. However, the best is yet to come, with a little something for everyone's liking. In less than two months, video game players worldwide will step into the shoes of one of the most iconic antiheroes ever created courtesy of Marvel's Wolverine. But before we slash our way through hordes of bad guys, we'll have to watch the good guys fight... more good guys?
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a 4v4 tag team fighter game featuring a wide variety of characters from across the Marvel Universe, each with their own set of normal, special, and unique attacks to defeat their enemies in battle. Players will soon be able to dive firsthand into Arc System Works' latest title thanks to the open beta that's set to take place from July 24 to 26. But before that, Marvel has decided to surprise us with more breaking news about its highly anticipated fighting game.
Everything revealed about MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls at SDCC 2026
On July 23, Marvel took over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con to give us new information about Marvel's Wolverine, followed by a special panel dedicated to MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. In the latter, Game Producer Takeshi Yamanaka, Localization Director Amber Seitz, and Development Manager Michael Francisco talked about what to expect from their upcoming fighting title. They were also joined by Marvel Comics artist Mike Deodato and the voice of Iron Man and Spider-Man, Josh Keaton.
The surprises started to come in even before the MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls panel started. Marvel's Wolverine took over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con just moments before, where it was revealed that there will be a collaboration between these two upcoming Marvel games. Starting September 1, players will be able to get Marvel's Wolverine's Battle Reborn suit in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls.

Since its announcement, it was clear that MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls crafted a unique visual identity unlike anything seen in the Marvel video game universe before. Fortunately, that personality has translated into the game's opening movie, which was unveiled at SDCC:
The anime intro was animated by Sanzigen Studio and inspired by classic fighting games. Furthermore, this sequence will be accompanied by the song "Stronger As One", which is set to be released on music platforms on Jul. 23, 2026.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will make full use of the haptic features of the PlayStation 5 controller to "accentuate the gameplay." Furthermore, it was revealed that the beta—which will run throughout the course of the weekend—will give players access to chapters 1 to 3 of the Amazing Guardians Episode campaign.
The main antagonist in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be the Champion of the Universe (Tryco Slatterus). Arc System Works revealed that the character is obscure enough to be reinvented in the video game world. Furthermore, it was revealed that this iteration of the villain will act as an elder god who is obsessed with fighting, mastering "every fighting style across the cosmos."

The story of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will follow five different captains trying to build a team of heroes and villains to fight the Champion of the Universe. Doctor Doom will be one of these captains and—as was to be expected—his lineup will consist of only the most terrifying bad guys of the Marvel Universe, like Carnage, Magneto, and the Green Goblin.
Actor Josh Keaton revealed that he recorded roughly 20 sessions for MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls before giving SDCC attendees a demonstration of his Peter Parker and Tony Stark voices.
While MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls hasn't been released just yet, developer Arc System Works is already looking at what lies ahead. The game will have a Year One DLC, and the first character announced as part of this expansion is Phoenix Cyclops—the result of the Phoenix Force channeling its powers through Scott Summers. While there is no concrete release date to play as the iconic hero, players can expect to see him later this fall.

In a publication made on the official PlayStation Blog, producer of MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Takeshi Yamanaka, gave us a slight tease about what to expect from Phoenix Cyclops' abilities when he finally joins the game:
"Cyclops is one of Marvel’s most iconic X-Men leaders. In MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, however, this version of Cyclops draws inspiration from his Phoenix Five incarnation from Avengers vs. X-Men, sporting a bold new look infused with the fiery cosmic power of the Phoenix Force. In addition to powerful Optic Blasts and exceptional hand-to-hand combat abilities that define the character, this Cyclops also possesses the Phoenix Force, so expect Scott Summers to bring the heat! We’ll have more to share about how these abilities are incorporated into his gameplay, so please stay tuned for future updates on his fighting style."
Furthermore, Yamanaka emphasized that players will see a wide variety of skins and costumes in MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls:
"Historically, alternate costumes have been relatively limited in Arc System Works titles. With MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, however, we’ve placed a much greater emphasis on costume development as one of the ways players can enjoy their favorite characters in new ways. We have plans to continue adding a variety of costumes in the future, so please look forward to what’s ahead. "
To get a better idea of everything MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls has to offer, players will be able to join the open beta this weekend (July 24 to 26) with no registration required. Fifteen of the game's 20 characters will be available, along with the first chapters of the Episode Mode. Better yet, it's just a matter of days before the full release comes our way.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will hit shelves on August 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and PC.
