The DC Universe is beginning to take form. Under the tutelage of DC Studios' co-chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, the franchise has the potential to rival Marvel Studios' long-standing Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing DC Comics characters back to the big screen after the previous DCEU was rested. And it all starts with Superman this summer.
The DCU officially kicked off with animated series Creature Commandos last year, but the Man of Steel will officially help it take flight. And David Corenswet's portrayal of the legendary DC hero in the upcoming James Gunn-directed film will also pave the way for the arrival of his cousin, Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.
House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock takes on the mantle of the Girl of Steel in 2026's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and the first look at her suited up has surfaced online.
Milly Alcock suits up as Supergirl on DC film set
Milly Alcock is currently busy filming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for DC Studios and the first look at her in costume has surfaced online. A new video shared by DCU Updates (which can be viewed here in a tweet) from UnBoxPHD features the star suited up as the Girl of Steel and it has already sent the internet into complete meltdown. But don't panic, it's not for the wrong reasons; it's for the right ones, as the suit looks nothing short of impeccable.
Of course, the video is taken from quite the distance away so we can't see it up close to get a full look at it, but the most important thing here is that it is incredibly comic-accurate. This has put fans' fears to rest as there was some concern that it might try to do its own thing since the Supergirl suit is a relatively simple design that has already had an iconic modern adaptation in the live-action TV series that began airing on CBS a decade ago. But that doesn't seem to be the case after all, as the classic blue-and-red ensemble features the traditional red skirt, boots, and cape that Kara Zor-El is known for sporting in the DC Comics.
Kara made her film debut in the 1984 film Supergirl in which she was portrayed by Helen Slater, who sported quite the comic-accurate suit too. She wouldn't appear on film again until 2023's The Flash, where Sasha Calle played an alternate version of the character that helped Barry Allen and Michael Keaton's Batman save the world from Zod's invasion. Her suit was extremely different, taking inspiration from the Lara Lane-Kent version of the character instead.
The most famous version of Supergirl to date is the one that starred in the aforementioned CBS/CW TV series portrayed by Melissa Benoist. The series' success as part of the Arrowverse helped introduce the character to a whole new audience and Benoist sported an incredibly comic-accurate suit for the first four seasons, which Alcock's suit now bears something of a resemblance to. And honestly, that's a good thing - because if the suit in Woman of Tomorrow looks anything like the one seen in Supergirl, then it's going to look amazing.
We can't wait for the full official look to come in the near-future.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arrives in movie theaters on June 26, 2026.
