With Superman flying into theaters on July 11, many DC fans are missing seeing Henry Cavill on our screens. And, as quiet as it has been kept, his live-action adaption of the Japanese super robot anime series Voltron has just recently wrapped production.

Although it only had three seasons during the Halcyon Days of Saturday morning cartoons, the cult following it has developed has kept the Voltron mystique alive and well decades later. The good news is that the movie is set to take that to the next stage.

Producer of the film Bob Koplar recently confirmed that the film had wrapped production via the Voltron handle on Instagram, which left fans excited about the upcoming adaptation.

Details for the film are scarce at the moment, but it does feature a pretty all-star cast. While many fans are clamoring over the former Man of Steel appearing in a robot of cybernetic metal, the rest of the players in this ensemble cast is impressive. Cavill is joined by Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, Tim Griffin, John Harlan Kim, Alba Baptista, Laura Gordon, Nathan Jones, Samson Kayo, and Daniel Quinn Toye.

Upon investigating the film's IMDB page, we still don't know which actor gets what robot hue to form the great Voltron. Does it even matter? Look at that cast collected by director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball, Skyscraper, Central Intelligence). A comforting face is John Harlan Kim, who no doubt will commandeer a lion. Kim has played in several TV adaptations of fabled products, such as TNT's The Librarians, Apple TV's The Last Thing He Told Me, and Amazon's Cruel Intentions. He also starred in the third season of The CW's Nancy Drew and appeared in multiple seasons of ABC's 911.

Go Lion Go

Voltron is an American adaptation of the Japanese anime and Toei Animation Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet DAirugger XV. The operative term is "Lion."

Lion Voltron was the original mech among the five, which were other felines but also ranged from birds (air), mammals (land), or fish (sea). With Cavill being the lead of Voltron, it's a safe assumption that he will pilot Lion Voltron. Together, the mighty crew are expected to face the same baddies from the original film: Prince Lotor (many believe this role will be played by Daniel Quinn-Toye) and King Zarkon (Roberto Zenca).

And, for what it's worth chisled adonis and routine evil-doer Nathan Jones is set to be the Super Soldier, Shiro! Lion Voltron should have his hands full with that menacing troika.

While production for Voltron has wrapped, there is no release date yet to see this "sterling" cast (see what we did there). Since the 2025 theatrical dance card is full, the anthropomorphic anime will probably become a feature of the 2026 Blockbuster slate. However, since this is an Amazon MGM release, plan on a major marketing push to stream the film.
