It has been almost two years since the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon aired, and now it’s time to see if Rhaenyra Targaryen or King Aegon II Targaryen will become the rightful ruler of Westeros. When we last left them, Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra met in private. Only, this time, it was Alicent who was risking her safety to try to avoid a war, while Rhaenyra was too far gone and knew that this could only end with her or Alicent’s sons being killed. After the two parted ways, viewers saw both sides preparing for one of the bloodiest wars in Westeros' history.

There are plenty of things to remember but one thing that stands out is Daemon Targaryen’s vision. It’s clear that part of what he saw comes true because it happens in Game of Thrones (Daenerys Targaryen becoming the Mother of Dragons and the arrival of the Night King). The one part that remains in question is whether or not Rhaenyra Targaryen becomes queen after the war is over. Daemon sees her as queen and on the Iron Throne, but that doesn't mean it's true, or if this part of his vision has a hidden or deeper meaning.

If you’ve read the books, you know how it ends. The rest of us will have to continue watching House of the Dragon to find out what happens. Speaking of which, here's how you can watch the season 3 premiere in your part of the world

What to expect in the House of the Dragon season 3 premiere

Quite a lot of people have described season 2 of House of the Dragon as an 8-episode trailer for season 3. It’s an accurate description since many people were disappointed with what they saw. I’m a fan of a slow build, and even I wasn't entertained by a lot of season 2. Nevertheless, I believe that the wait will be worth it once the season 3 premiere begins.

The third season of House of the Dragon is set to tackle the infamous Battle of the Gullet from Geroge R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood novel, meaning that we're likely going to be thrown into an intense season premiere. What should we expect? Mess, chaos, and violence, as the Game of Thrones prequel series is likely to get bloodier than ever.

As reported by Variety, showrunner Ryan Condal told an audience at Shoreditch Town Hall in East London that the show won’t waste time getting into the highly anticipated battle. That’s good news for many Game of Thrones fans who’ve read the books or know the lore. As Condol says:

"All of the pot that was set to boil at the end of Season 2 very much picks up in Season 3, and you have these divided factions on either side, but there’s now divisions within the divisions, and those things will continue to fracture, and we’ll continue to see self-interested people do awful things in the name of pride and power and ego and self and family."

Yes, House of the Dragon is going to thrill us in its third season, ensuring that the lengthy wait - both throughout season 2 and after it - for the Battle of the Gullet will be worth it. And now, it's finally time to witness it!
