If someone had told you in 2011 when Game of Thrones premiered that we would still be obsessed with the world of Westeros in 2026, you might have been surprised. Or, perhaps if you were familiar with George R. R. Martin's gripping fantasy saga, you wouldn't have been surprised at all. After all, fans have been obsessed with A Song of Ice and Fire long before the original HBO series began.

The most recent chapter in the saga, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, just completed a successful first season run, leaving fans once again longing for more. While Dunk and Egg are expected to return to screens relatively soon, we can look towards the other GoT show on the air: House of the Dragon. And, in spite of the show's reputation for lengthy waits, the wait is almost over.

House of the Dragon season 3 confirmed for June 2026 release

After much anticipation, HBO has officially confirmed that House of the Dragon season 3 will premiere in June. It has yet to announce which exact date that will release will come on, but we can officially narrow it down to four specific dates as the show will air on a Sunday (like all previous Game of Thrones shows). And with that, we can expect it to arrive on either June 7, June 14, June 21, or June 28.

There was a lot of speculation about when the new season of the show might come out. Although fans were anticipating summer, the June confirmation was a pleasant surprise. Not only is that pretty early considering that there are still two more months of summer to come after that, it's also in the first half of the year - meaning that both of this year's Game of Thrones shows will have premiered before the halfway point of 2026.

As the marketing push for the series' triumphant return begins, HBO has officially released the first trailer for the upcoming season, which previews the coming war between Rhaenyra and Aegon Targaryen. The two are going to war for the Iron Throne after Rhaenyra was ousted in spite of her father's wishes. And you'll know that when any Game of Thrones project does a war, it will be an all-out epic that will change the face of that respective show forever.

Rhaenyra isn't coming to this battle alone, either, as she has support from her son Jacaerys, her army of dragons, and Daemon - with whom she has an extremely complicated relationship. Despite it seeming as if he was going to turn on her in the previous season, Daemon has pledged his allegiance to Rhaenyra, telling her that she is the Queen of Dragons and that this is rightfully her throne.

With her former friend / stepmother, Lady Alicent Hightower, attempting to make things right, can the the Greens and the Blacks find common ground for the future of the Targaryen dynasty? Not likely given the franchise we're talking about here. But, as longtime fans of the franchise will know, it's going to be a gripping journey watching them figure it all out with battles and dragons.

It's looking like the third season of House of the Dragon could be the most epic yet. If the trailer is anything to go by, that will almost certainly be the case. With that in mind, we have just one question to ask: Is it June yet?!
