Comic book and superhero fans are preparing for the grand finale of The Boys, which has easily been one of the biggest projects that the genre has seen in the past decade. It's for that reason, among many others, that there is a bittersweet feeling in the air as the Prime Video TV show begins to bow out with its ongoing fifth and final season.
Season 5 has already featured a number of shock deaths, which have generated a lot of discussion. But even so, those seven weeks have already gone around quickly, meaning that the there is just one episode of The Boys left to air. With that, let's dive into what you need to know.
There is one episode left of The Boys season 5 (and the finale screens in US theaters)
Somehow, we have indeed made it through the final season of The Boys rather quickly as there is just one episode left - and, therefore, there is just one episode left of the overall series, too. "Blood and one" is the series finale of the Prime Video series and it will air on the streaming service this Wednesday, May 20, in the show's typical timeslot of 3:00 a.m. ET, 12:00 a.m. PT, 1:00 a.m. MT, and 2:00 a.m. CT.
Just in case you're surprised by how quickly The Boys season 5 has run through, here's a quick look at the release schedule to clear things up:
Episode 1: "Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite" - April 8
Episode 2: "Teenage Kix" - April 8
Episode 3: "Every One of You Sons of Bitches" - April 15
Episode 4: "King of Hell" - April 22
Episode 5: "One-Shots" - April 29
Episode 6: "Though the Heavens Fall" - May 6
Episode 7: "The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk" - May 13
Episode 8: "Blood and Bone" - Releases May 20
The culprit for the quicker-than-expected finish is undoubtedly the two-episode premiere. Prime Video typically releases 2-3 episodes at the beginning of a season on the same week, which ultimately cuts the overall time that it's on screen shorter. It's generally a three-episode premiere for The Boys but, as this was the final season, Prime Video opted for two episodes instead.

Even though there is only one episode left of the whole series, it's expected to be a major one. That sounds like a pretty obvious thing to say given that it's the finale, but it carries so much more weight than a typical finale would. After all, Prime Video has announced that the series' final episode will screen exclusively in US theaters ahead of its premiere on the streaming service.
This is a similar approach to what Netflix did with juggernaut Stranger Things' final episode, but there is one major difference here: The Boys' series finale will debut in select theaters ahead of its streaming debut, meaning that spoilers could - and likely will - leak out about the finale well ahead of time. So, if you can't make it out to theaters, make sure you turn off all Boys notifications and mute those buzzwords to avoid having the episode spoiled for you.
Vought International's reign of terror is almost over, but where will that leave Homelander and the remnants of the Seven? What does it mean for Billy Butcher and The Boys when the fight is over? You'll have to tune into the finale to find out all of that... and so much more!
