It is no secret that The Boys season 5 has proven to be a little controversial so far, and not for the show's usual reasons. The overall consensus seems to be that what was supposed to be an ambitious and explosive final chapter hasn't been all that explosive or ambitious. Now, everyone has the very same question in mind: Will the finale be able to close out the series in a big way? Or will the series' legacy be tarnished due to a slow conclusion?
Despite the mixed reactions to season 5 so far, the last-ever episode of The Boys is still generating quite a lot of buzz. Audiences worldwide are eager to know if any shocking deaths are in store, if Butcher will make it out alive from all the chaos, and whether Homelander will be infected with the Godolkin Virus. But beware, because every single surprise being saved for Episode 8 may make its way online earlier than anticipated.
The Boys season 5 finale will screen in selected theaters earlier than its Prime Video release; spoilers could make their way online
For starters, The Boys season 5 episode 8 spoilers have seemingly made their way online, and fans are very divided about them. On the bright side, no one is 100% sure whether these leaks are real or not, so there's still room to be surprised even if you happen to stumble upon them. Unfortunately, the same will not be true in a matter of a few days.
The Boys finale will screen in select theaters across Canada and the US on May 19 at 9:30 p.m. ET. Unfortunately, international audiences will have to wait until May 20 at 3:00 a.m. ET to watch the episode on Prime Video (there don't appear to be any plans to pull the release time back to primetime). That means true, definite spoilers could've made their way online by that point already.

The Boys season 5 episode 8 has a runtime of 1 hour 5 minutes, meaning there will be a period of over four hours when some lucky few will have witnessed the culmination of seven years' worth of storytelling before the rest of the world. Any big death or shocking plot point could be leaked before the finale's global premiere, which is something to be very cautious about. If you don't want any surprises ruined for you, it would be best to keep away from social media or mute certain keywords on X (formerly Twitter) to reduce the chances of being spoiled.
During an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Homelander actor Antony Starr teased that "the worst thing" his character has done is yet to come, and fans expect such a moment to happen in Episode 8. Furthermore, at least one big, unexpected death has to occur as well, since it's very unlikely the series has a happy ending. There are also many (a little too many, perhaps) storylines that remain unresolved. So even if an hour and five minutes' worth of finale isn't enough to close things out in a satisfactory manner, there will be plenty of surprises that could be spoiled.
Extremely popular and beloved shows like Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Dexter failed to stick the landing, tarnishing the legacy of their entire runs. Fans are extremely worried that The Boys will also be added to that list. After all, Season 5 has been slower-paced than anyone could've imagined. Granted, that's not to say big deaths haven't taken place. Characters like A-Train and Frenchie, who have been present since the very beginning, have paid with their lives. However, the shock factor of these deaths hasn't been enough to carry the momentum of an entire season.
With a bit of luck, The Boys finale will not only be able to stand up to the series' earlier seasons, but none of its surprises will be spoiled ahead of time. Still, it never hurts to be away from social media for about five hours before the episode's global release on Amazon's streaming platform.
The Boys Season 5 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
