Don’t worry, nothing to see here. That’s the sentiment one Marvel insider is spreading amid a new rumor connected to the highly anticipated closing chapter to Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise which suggests the final film in the trilogy has hit a major setback.

Earlier this week, a new rumor began circulating online that suggested Sony’s Beyond the Spider-Verse was undergoing some serious setbacks that could result in a severe delay in the film’s release. According to the rumor gaining traction and being spread by multiple sources, Sony ordered a new script for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse following the release of Across the Spider-Verse which basically had the writers starting from scratch.

As the reports suggested, nobody at the studio was in agreement over how the film should end, and as a result, the film’s release was said to be “very far off” with speculation that they hadn’t even begun animating the new iteration of the final film. Needless to say, this report did not sit well with fans as it spread like wildfire with concerns about the film being delayed even further.

Considering the film was pulled from its originally scheduled release date of March 29, 2024, with an indefinite delay first caused by the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, it was easy to believe that another factor in the film’s delay was concerns with the script.

However, it seems that fans shouldn’t panic, at least according to insider Jeff Sneider.

“Don’t worry, nothing to see here. Everything is going great,” the trusted Marvel insider responded of the rumor, seeming to hint there is no truth to the rumors that Sony threw out the original script and that Beyond the Spider-Verse has suffered further delays.

Honestly, we’re among those who would agree with Sneider as there have been no reputable scoopers to report on the delay and if Sony had indeed thrown out the script for the film and started from scratch, it seems unlikely more reputable insiders such as Daniel RPK, Grace Randolph, My Time to Shine Hello would have reported a blind item of some kind suggesting the film was in bad shape.

Producer Christopher Miller has also debunked past reports about portions of the film being scrapped, telling followers on X that, ”Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely,” back in September.

Beyond the Spider-Verse’s release date remains unknown

While Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally slated to release on March 29, 2024, when pulling the film from its schedule Sony opted not to announce a new release date upfront. Instead, they simply noted the film was being pulled indefinitely and have left fans waiting for an update ever sense. At the time, the film’s delay was blamed on the writers’ and actors’ strikes, though there were also reports that the film’s animation would simply take longer than expected to complete.

Since pulling the film, Sony hasn’t offered up many updates nor have those closest to the film.

During an interview with Digital Spy back in August 2023, writer/producer Phil Lord simply made it clear that the film will come out “when it's ready,” adding that “those conversations are thankfully above our paygrade, but I can tell you we're already hard at work on it, and we'll take the time it takes to make it great."

Given the new live-action Spider-Man movie is slated to release in 2026 and Sony has yet to release two Spider-Man movies in the same calendar year, we imagine the plan likely has to be to either attempt to get the film ready for 2025 or potentially hold it for 2027. Though, Sony could always surprise us by releasing both Spider-Man 4 and Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2026.

Of course, it would be nice to get an update from Sony on the timeline for the film and receive an update of some sort, but for now, we’ll just keep waiting for an official announcement to come and trust Sony to stick the landing in closing out its Spider-Verse trilogy.
