Season 3 of Invincible started with Mark Grayson, a.k.a. Invincible himself, training to become a better and stronger hero, fighting someone tough, and learning that he can’t trust everyone. As the episodes continued, the evolution of the side characters did too. It was masterfully done, especially with everything that was going on.

Even with all of that, there was one surprise left. One of the most dangerous characters returned. Before we get into that, the stage has to be set with two villains being brutally murdered.

*** This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 3, episode 3 ***

Oliver (now going by Kid Omni-Man) saw the mauler Twins were threatening the world, decided that they needed to be taken care of permanently, and followed through. The shock of Oliver (a kind who looks 9 years old tops) being covered in blood was something even the Guardians of the Globe weren’t prepared to see. But that paled in comparison to Oliver telling Mark that he didn't regret it and that human lives aren’t precious.

As Debbie is explaining that killing is wrong, Mark notices a metal orb watching him. He leaps into action and grabs it, but the orb explodes in his hand. The Graysons don’t know where it came from, but the viewers do. We see that it was a surveillance device and the person on the other end was the antagonist from season 2, Angstrom Levy.

It’s okay if you’re confused. The last time you saw Angstrom Levy, Invincible was turning his face into a paste (season 2 "I Thought You Were Stronger"). What we didn’t see (but likely will in the next episode) is what happened after. Levy used his powers to teleport to another universe and get his injuries attended to. Like every villain, instead of realizing that his obsession isn’t worth the trouble, he decides to take things up a notch.

Angstrom Levy realizes that he can’t beat Mark on his own. So what does he do? He travels the multiverse looking for evil and ruthless versions of Mark Grayson to go after the one who he thinks ruined his life. And when the time is right, he’s going to unleash them on the world in hopes of ruining Invincible’s reputation and possibly killing him. That’s when we will see one of the biggest battles of the series and it’s called the Invincible War. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow for more on that.
