5 moments we should expect to see in the Invincible War (and some we won't)

It’s Mark Grayson vs. 18 of his variants as Prime Video series debuts the Invincible War. Here are important moments from the comic book that may - or may not - happen on the show.

INVINCIBLE Season 3 | Next on Episode 7 | Invincible

Invincible season 3 has been slowly building towards the highly anticipated Invincible War; a moment where multiple versions of Mark Grayson come to Earth to wreak havoc and chew bubble gum. Unfortunately, they’re all out of bubble gum.

Some of the things that happen in the source material (Invincible: Still Standing) may or may not take place in the Prime Video series - which kicks off its adaptation of the storyline in its seventh episode of season 3. However, among these big moments in the comics is the arrival of characters who probably won't be part of the show, as licensing prohibits them from appearing. It would be great to see Spawn, but it may not happen even though he's an Image Comics character. However, if he doesn’t show up, the creative team could always introduce someone who resembles him and his powers.

This article will highlight the important moments from The Invincible War and predict as to whether or not they’ll happen in the series. As always, there could be possible spoilers going forward. Read at your own risk.

Will happen: How Angstrom Levy survived

Mark thought he killed Angstrom Levy in the alternate reality they were in (see season 2, episode 8). Unfortunately, Mark doesn't know the two biggest rules when it comes to comic book deaths. First, unless you check the body, the person is still alive. Second, even if they aren't alive, everyone can come back from the dead.

Episode 7 should start with a flashback to how Angstrom Levy escaped and who helped him recover. It wouldn't make sense for it to begin any other way. Having it happen in between the carnage would ruin the flow.

Won’t happen: Mark is useless

In the comics, Mark doesn’t help as much as he could have. Considering his girlfriend, Atom Eve, was in a coma, it makes sense. He was more concerned about her health than anything else. Because, without her, the world is irrelevant. After learning that Eve's existence plays a big part in Mark's variants turning evil, it makes sense he'd stay at her side.

This writer doesn’t think that will happen in the Prime Video series. Not having him take part in the war would waste the moments when viewers saw him become more powerful over the course of the series. And while this is a perfect opportunity to highlight the other heroes in the universe, Mark’s progress as a hero doesn’t need to be sacrificed to bring them in. However, since this takes place over three days, Mark taking a step back to stay with Eve is possible.

Will happen: Brit and Capes Incorporated

When The Invincible War starts, Brit and Donald manage to defeat a variant of Mark at the Pentagon. When Cecil arrives on the scene, he tells Donald to get help. When Donald asks who he should call, Cecil yells “EVERYONE!”

I’ve mentioned Brit debuting in my previews for seasons 2 and 3 of Invincible and it's not just because he's a favorite of mine. Brit is an amazing and crucial character in the story. With him should come Capes Incorporated. They have a bunch of colorful and powerful characters that will be needed to stop the Mark Graysons from destroying property and murdering people around the world.

Invincible Season 2 Part 2
Jason Mantzoukas (Rex Splode)

Will happen: Rex’s death

Rex Splode and Shrinking Rae shared an emotional moment in episode 7 about leaving the superhero life behind. Rae was tired of the threat of death. And, at first, it looked like Rex was going join her. Sadly, he couldn't. He says all he knows is being a superhero and even his name (Rex Splode) isn't just his code name. It's the legal name given to him.

With that just happening, Rex sacrificing himself to kill an Invincible will hit harder than it did in the comics. Don’t be shocked if it’s later revealed that Rae is pregnant with their child.

Maybe: Savage Dragon, Witchblade, and more

Spawn was mentioned earlier, but he isn’t the only Image comic book character that helped during this story. Heroes and anti-heroes like Savage Dragon, Witchblade, and Pitt don't have a lot of buzz around them. Because of that, there's a chance they could appear. It’s a nice way to get people to learn who they are and dig into their past.

That being said, this writer isn’t holding his breath.

Will happen: Powerplex sees Invincible

After the battle is over, Mark will immediately blame himself for everything that happened and so will Scott Duvall (Powerplex). Powerplex will start attacking Invincible while he’s trying to help rebuild and say that the destruction is his fault.

That will add fuel to Mark’s needed rage when Conquest shows up to fight. And you'll know that Conquest is not to be taken lightly.

Will happen: Conquest

There isn’t much to say other than the episode will likely end with Mark and Conquest flying at each other to fight for the right to Earth. This was perfectly executed in the comic so there’s no need to change anything when it comes to the series.

The speech Conquest makes and Mark’s response to it doesn’t need to be altered either. It’s an elite moment leading to a cliffhanger that will get fans excited for the season 3 finale.
