The world is still reeling from the Invincible season 4 finale. Although it might have been a little less action-packed than the non-comic readers were expecting, the stakes of it were exponentially high as Mark Grayson, his brother Oliver, their father Nolan, and the other heroes had to simply surrender their Earth in order to save it from annihilation.
It was a somber ending to the fourth season, which has truly fired on all cylinders throughout its eight-episode run. And naturally, the high-stakes ending has made fans want the next episode of the Prime Video TV series even sooner. Unfortunately, there will be a bit of a wait on your hands.
Invincible season 5 isn't coming out until 2027 at the earliest
Invincible season 5 is in development but it won't be arriving on Prime Video until the first months of 2027 at the very earliest. The streamer officially announced the renewal ahead of the fourth season's arrival, going as far as to confirm that voicework had actually been completed on it. So, technically, by the time that the announcement was made, season 5 was already old news to them. In many ways, it's probably nearly ready to go. So, then, you might naturally ask: Why the delay?
The Prime Video streaming service has finally gotten into a healthy rotation when it comes to Invincible. The first season was a resounding success when it first premiered back in 2021 during the pandemic, but the extensive two-and-a-half year-long wait for the second season didn't sit well with fans. Nor did the fall premiere because the short eight-episode season was split into two halves of four episodes instead. After this criticism, the creatives behind the show ensured that seasons 3 and 4 were both released in the same March release window as the first season, with no split-seasons either.

With all of that in mind, the show has finally found a groove with these March releases, kicking things off with a three-episode premiere before shifting to a weekly-release format for the rest of the season. It won't be messing with that groove, even if season 5 is nearly ready to go.
Speaking of the season being nearly ready to go, Invincible is a massive undertaking and it requires a lot in order to pull it off. The huge delay between the first and second seasons is proof of that - and we're not just talking about how long it takes to put the animation together. With its star-studded cast, it can be hard to get everyone together over a period of time to record their lines. That was clear this year when Mark's best friend, William Clockwell, was recast for his single appearance earlier this season.
With all of that in mind, Prime Video likely wouldn't risk fast-tracking the fifth season - even if it is ready - as it would require them to fast-track production on a potential sixth season. If that were to happen, it would potentially risk the show ending up in a predicament like it was in 2021, resulting in an extended break between seasons 5 and 6. Staying on track with the annual March release allows the show to avoid that from happening again.

Comic book and series creator Robert Kirkman spoke to Collider about the timeframe, confirming that the early 2027 release window is likely for Invincible season 5- even if he couldn't narrow it down to a specific month.
“I think that a pattern has formed, but I can't confirm anything. Maybe it will be April. Maybe May. Maybe January. I don’t know. Who knows? We’ll see... But I would say that the goal is to is to come back in this general timeframe."
So, yes, there is a chance that we might get season 5 earlier in 2027 than the typical spring window, but the truth is that it still likely won't arrive until next year at the earliest. Our next episode of the show will be coming in 2027 - that's all we know for sure at this point.
As for whether there is a future for Invincible beyond season 5, the answer is yes - provided it continues to be the success that it currently is. Kirkman also confirmed in a separate interview that the plan is currently between 7 - 9 seasons of the show, so provided everyone tunes in, we should be set for many more springs of Mark Grayson's adventures.
So, with that in mind, you what to do in early 2027!
