If we're going by the source material, season 3 of Invincible completed volume 12 of 25 of the comics. The Invincible War followed by the fight with Conquest was the perfect way for Prime Video to hit close to the halfway of the series and the right ending point of the season. As unforgettable as those were, the attitude change from Mark Grayson (Invincible) is the most crucial moment of the season. Mark stated that anyone who threatened his family would be killed and he wasn’t joking.

I’ve stated in multiple articles that this was the beginning of dark times for Invincible, but season 3 was only a taste of what's to come. If you thought the Invincible War and Conquest were a problem, wait until you meet the most powerful Viltrumite alive, Grand Regent Thragg.

The Invincible social media team wasted no time announcing the future of the series in their posts. The three most important parts were a possible storyline not included in the comics, the show returning sometime in 2026, and the voice acting being complete. With the voice acting came the reveal that Thragg will appear and has been cast. But who is Thraag and why is he a big deal?

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE!

Why is Thragg important?

Do you remember the first time you saw how strong Omni-Man and Conquest were? It’s an easy guess that you were in awe. The things they did were unbelievable. Everything you’ve seen them and Invincible do is nothing compared to the power and speed of the most feared Viltrumite, Grand Regent Thraag. He’s so mighty and respected that when Conquest returned to him, he cowered and bent the knee in his presence for failing him. Imagine being so intimidating that a monster like Conquest is terrified of failing.

Another example comes later in the series when Omni-Man and Invincible see Thragg together. The same Omni-Man that defeated the Guardians of the Globe by himself said that there was nothing he or his son could do against him. He was too scared to even try. That’s the kind of fear he instills in people. And that’s only the beginning. Throughout the Invincible, comic book readers witness how cruel Thragg is because he’s a true believer in the Viltrume way of living. Only the strongest Vitrumites are allowed to exist because weakness is a sickness or a disease that can be spread.

I won’t get into the more deplorable things Thragg does because they’re too vile to type. However, one thing should be noted before the article ends. For all of his superior physical abilities, he’s an incredible leader, strategist, and motivator. The latter comes with a lot of manipulation.

Eventually, Thragg will become the new Homelander. People will wonder how strong he is and if he could beat some of the best comic book characters around. The difference is no one will ever see Thragg run away from a fight or look weak in front of others.
