The multiverse is collapsing, and there's no conventional way to save it. Unfortunately, that means opportunistic antagonists will look for twisted ways in which reality can be preserved, and Doctor Doom will be among them. In 2026 the Marvel Cinematic Universe will face its biggest threat yet during the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Worlds will collide and sacrifices will be made. So the best chance to stop the madness is for iconic heroes to come together and fight against the common enemy. However, The Avengers disbanded after the departure of Iron Man, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff, and now it's up to Sam Wilson to pick up the pieces.

During the events of Captain America: Brave New World, the former president of the United States, Thaddeus Ross, gave Cap the task of assembling a new iteration of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Audiences are eager to see who will show up in the battle against Doctor Doom, and it looks like we might finally have an answer thanks to a new report. Unfortunately, it seems some key characters will be missing, and that can only mean bad news for the future of the multiverse.

The Avengers new line-up for Avengers: Doomsday reportedly revealed

According to renowned insider, HolyField News, Sam Wilson will assemble a team of eight heroes for the events of Avengers: Doomsday. Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, She-Hulk, Shang-Chi, and War Machine—along with Cap himself—will all join forces to prevent Doom from ruling the world as we know it. However, one look is enough to note that key characters such as Doctor Strange, Hulk, Wanda, Thor, Hawkeye, Wiccan, and more are missing. So what is the reason for that?

When Avengers: Infinity War premiered, audiences witnessed how two different groups of heroes attempted to stop Thanos and his forces on two different fronts. Unfortunately, this "division" is what ultimately led to the heroes' failure and the death of half of the universe as we knew it. Well, it looks like a similar scenario will happen in the next big live-action crossover, except Marvel's biggest heroes will be even more scattered this time around.

The first official concept art released for Avengers: Doomsday revealed that the Young Avengers will finally assemble on the screen, consisting of Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, Wiccan, and Speed. However, it's unlikely that they will fight side-by-side with the Avengers once Doom arrives. And what about the soon-to-be Sorcerer Supreme? Well, Doctor Strange is on his own separate adventure with Clea looking to prevent an incursion from happening. To make matters worse: Monica Rambeau is in a different universe altogether, the Fantastic Four are also on a parallel Earth, and who knows what members of the Thunderbolts will even survive their own movie.

If history has taught us anything, it is that attempting to fight a common enemy on many different fronts isn't the best of tactics, yet it seems that will be the case in Avengers: Doomsday. That's why there will only seemingly be eight main Avengers in the team, and it all seems to indicate that they will fail yet again. After all, their loss is what will allow for the events of Secret Wars to happen further down the line. It all seems as inevitable as Thanos.

Of course, we also need to ask ourselves what will happen with The Eternals, Daredevil, Punisher, Moon Knight, and the Guardians of The Galaxy. So far, most of them (with the exception of the latter) have been isolated from the rest of the MCU. However, the collapse of the multiverse seems like a threat big enough for them not to do anything. So chances are they will have a role to play as well (even if it's very small), but a bit of setup will be necessary as well.

Once all major Marvel heroes from across the multiverse finally join forces for the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, then the fight against Doom will be more balanced. But for the time being, it looks like all the pieces are in place for Victor to succeed in forming and ruling Battleworld, especially if the current Avengers line-up consists of just eight heroes.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on May 1, 2026.
