The previous episode of Lanterns was another example of Hal Jordan and John Stewart being the live-action comic book duo we never knew we needed. Even in hologram form, and without updated memories, Hal was still both incredible and a jerk. As great as they were, that wasn’t the important part of the episode.
As they were trying to solve Hal Jordan’s murder, Hologram Hal and John found themselves on the planet where Antaan and his people were murdered in a genocide. While there, John experiences the same fear that caused the people to kill each other, and sometimes themselves.
Speaking of fear, it was appropriate that the episode ends with the reveal that Sinestro is out of the Sciencells. Why is he out? How did he escape? That should be revealed in the finale.

What to expect in the season finale of Lanterns
In the final episode of Lanterns season 1, viewers will learn who killed Hal Jordan. Because Hal isn’t the most liked person in the universe, it could be anybody from Earth or beyond. That includes characters that haven’t been seen in the series. Or maybe it's someone unassuming who's been in the background the entire season. Luckily, writer Tom King is involved in the DC Studios show; that means fans will be satisfied with how it ends.
Maybe the most important part of the story is what happens to John Stewart. It would be easy to guess that he becomes one of the Green Lanterns, but that isn’t a guarantee. He may look at how being affiliated with them has ruined his life, causing him to, once again, pass on the opportunity. Or, and this is a legitimate option, John could be so powerful that he doesn’t need the permission of the Guardians to be a Green Lantern.
No matter what happens, fans can look back at Lanterns and smile because it was another brilliant program in Peter Safran and James Gunn’s DC Universe. Hopefully, the show's success will lead to a second season. Maybe, like HBO’s True Detective, season 2 will follow another potential Lantern. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out if that happens.
