The Marvel Games division has been firing on all cylinders lately, releasing multiple critically acclaimed titles per year. But while there has been no shortage of iconic video games for players to choose from, Marvel's Spider-Man still holds the crown as the most beloved franchise among them all. Swinging across New York's skyline as two different friendly neighborhood heroes has been an amazing experience that has left us all craving more. But while Insomniac is confirmed to be working on something Spider-Man-related, it might not be the game we initially expected.
Ever since the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, fans have speculated about the possibility of a Marvel's Venom spin-off game. After all, it was a bit odd how Insomniac Games gave the Lethal Protector his own set of curated gameplay mechanics, only for us to control him in one single level. Reports then backed up this idea, claiming that the iconic anti-hero would, indeed, get a solo adventure. Unfortunately, the days of believing the alien monstrosity would be unleashed on the video game world were short-lived... or were they?

Marvel's Venom was in the works at Insomniac Games, but has been cancelled
During an interview with Love it Film, Nadji Jeter—the voice and motion capture actor behind Miles Morales—revealed that Insomniac Games was developing a Venom video game. However, the project was cancelled after the unfortunate passing of the wonderful and immensely talented Tony Todd, who voiced the Lethal Protector in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and received widespread acclaim for his brilliant performance:
"We were going to have a Venom game, and a Venom DLC, but we lost Tony Todd (...) They showed me how it was gonna start. They showed me how everything was going to be (...) It was going to be a Venom video game, but then we lost my uncle Tony Todd."
Unfortunately, it seems we won't get to wreak havoc as Venom in a video game any time soon. After all, it would be extremely unlikely for a voice and performance actor to talk about an unannounced project unless it was 100% cancelled. That being said, there is still some hope that Marvel's Venom could get to see the light of day.
A verified developer on Resetera posted: "Unless [the game] was canceled in the past two or so weeks... this runs contradictory to what was being discussed at GDC". The Game Developer Conference was held in San Francisco from March 9 to 13, and it had major reveals such as Xbox's upcoming console, Project Helix. The event is a major networking opportunity for developers across the globe, and also serves to showcase what's next in the video game world. With that in mind, there's definitely a chance that Marvel's Venom was internally discussed there in some capacity.
Back in September 2025, Reliable video game outlet MP1st not only claimed that Marvel's Venom was still in development but also that Marvel's Wolverine would be released in 2026 (the latter of which has been confirmed now). Furthermore, insider That REDACTED Guy—who had previously reported the existence of Marvel's Venom—has stated that Insomniac is deciding whether the Lethal Protector's upcoming adventure will be a cross-gen title once the PlayStation 6 arrives, meaning it could still be alive.
Regardless of its fate, little is known about Marvel's Venom. It was initially reported that Eddie Brock would get to bond with the parasitic alien, instead of Harry Osborn, as it happened in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Furthermore, Carnage was meant to act as the main antagonist. Last, but certainly not least, the game was supposed to be revealed in 2026, aiming for a 2027 release.
With Marvel's Wolverine on the horizon, Insomniac Games is likely focusing on polishing Logan's game before its release. With that in mind, it's unlikely that we'll get any Marvel's Venom news any time soon, even if the game is still under development. So, for the time being, it's best to believe Nadji's words and assume the title will never see the light of day. On the bright side, something Spider-Man-related is definitely coming from Insomniac Games, and we can't wait to see what it is.
Marvel's Wolverine will be released on Sep. 15, 2026.
