The Marvel's Spider-Man update we've been waiting for is finally here

This year will mark three years since the last Marvel's Spider-Man game, and at long last, we have an update on the franchise's future.

The Marvel Games division has been doing its best to rival its sister branch, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the sheer number of projects being launched. Last year alone, we saw the release of titles like Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Marvel's Deadpool VR, and Marvel Mystic Mayhem. Furthermore, promising games, such as Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, Marvel's Blade, and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, are on the horizon. However, there's no denying that the most anticipated superhero title right now is none other than Marvel's Wolverine (that's a lot of "Marvels" right there).

While all eyes are on Insomniac Games' upcoming game, it's hard to forget that the studio has a whole other saga on its plate. The last installment in the Marvel's Spider-Man saga was released in 2023, and since then, neither Sony nor PlayStation has announced what's next for the friendly neighborhood hero. But at long last, we have a small tease that something is definitely coming our way.

A new Marvel's Spider-Man game is now teased to be in the works

In a now-deleted post, the face model behind Insomniac's Peter Parker, Ben Jordan, teased that he's working on a new Spider-Man video game. The picture shows the actor rigged with a face-capture camera while a TV in the background is running video game development software. As if that wasn't enough indication that Ben is working on a Marvel's Spider-Man video game, he's also recreating the iconic web-shooting hand sign and added the caption "If You Know You Know" with a spider emoji right at the end.

That's right, a new installment in the Marvel's Spider-Man saga is coming our way. Now, the only question remaining is, which game is Insomniac working on?

For months now, it's been an open secret that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is a reality. Peter Parker and Miles Morales' voice actors, Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter, have talked about what to expect when the trilogy capper comes our way; Peter will come out of retirement, Miles will go back to his original suit instead of that Adidas costume, and Carnage is hinted to have a role to play. Furthermore, concept art has given us a glimpse at what the Green Goblin could look like. Besides, the ending of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 teased that a follow-up was always in the cards.

While it is very likely that Ben Jordan is working on Marvel's Spider-Man 3, there are other options we shouldn't rule out. For starters, Marvel's Wolverine is releasing this September, so there's a slight chance that everyone's favorite wall-crawler is set to make a cameo there, teasing a future team-up between the two beloved heroes. After all, both video game franchises are being developed by the same studio.

Another option is for Spidey to appear in the long-rumored Marvel's Venom spin-off. Do you remember how Marvel's Spider-Man 2 featured a level where we could take control of the Lethal Protector, and the villain had unique gameplay mechanics that worked for that segment alone? Well, such a sequence may be merely a tease of what's to come. A Marvel's Venom game is reported to be revealed as early as this year, with a 2027 release date being likely.

Perhaps Insomniac is looking to recreate Peter's face model for a new generation of consoles and multiple upcoming video games. After all, both Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4 and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 were released to huge commercial success, so chances are the saga isn't going anywhere just yet. With a bit of luck, not only will we discover what surprises await in store over the following year, but we'll see our favorite friendly neighborhood hero in Marvel's Wolverine as well.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released on Sept. 15, 2026.
