Long-rumored Marvel movie might finally be announced soon, report suggests

Fans have been eager to see this standalone, long-rumored project since the inception of the MCU, and it seems we might be close to an official announcement.

There was a time when Disney would announce entire phases of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV series years before their release. Fans knew exactly how the following years would play out and when to expect the premiere of each new upcoming project. However, there was a big risk in this strategy as plans could inadvertently change at any moment. Initially, these changes would be minor (such as an Inhumans movie shifting to a failed TV series). However, things have been more unstable in recent years.

Key MCU movies such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars have all been delayed, indirectly changing the stories of other projects such as Spider-Man: No Way Home. Speaking of the wall-crawler, Spider-Man: Brand New Day also suffered from a minor push back, while the plans of the entire Multiverse Saga shifted once Kang was dropped as the main antagonist in favor of Doctor Doom. As such, the superhero giant has recently remained coy about what's to come next.

An untitled Marvel project was slated to be released on Nov. 6, 2026 (initially in-between Doomsday and Secret Wars), but it has now been changed to a Disney film. So what was this mystery movie supposed to be, and will it still see the light of day? Well, a new report could finally unveil the truth, and the answer is better than expected.

A Hulk project is hinted to take place between the upcoming Avengers movies

Industry insider Alex Perez was recently asked if fans could see the release of a Hulk movie between the upcoming Avengers crossovers (via The Cosmic Circus). Although he didn't respond with a direct "yes" or "no" answer, he stated that "We’ll find out soon enough". This seemingly indicates not only that the project is a reality and in the works at Marvel, but that a potential announcement is about to take place in the near future (San Diego Comic-Con, perhaps?).

Back in January 2025, it was reported that a World War Hulk movie was in the works, with filming expected to begin the same year. This would mean Bruce Banner was intended to smash his way onto the big screen after the release of Avengers: Doomsday, before the crossover's recent delay. Speaking of which, Bruce Banner has also been rumored to appear in Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure, along with his cousin Jennifer Walters. Not only that, but their arc could directly set up their solo movie further down the line.

Leaked Marvel concept art—presumed to be for Avengers: Doomsday—revealed that Hulk, She-Hulk, and Skaar will live in a medieval-esque town that houses other Hulks. Insider Divinity Seeker claimed this sequence is meant to be a part of a small World War Hulk arc in Avengers: Doomsday. Perhaps due to the creation of Battleworld and the convergence of all Marvel parallel universes in existence, Bruce and Jennifer will come across other Hulks and form a small civilization where they can all thrive.

Hulk has been reduced to a secondary character in the MCU, lacking his characteristic and defining rage. Ever since his transformation into Professor Hulk, fans have been asking to see the raging monster go back to his violent ways. With that in mind, an adaptation of World War Hulk would be the perfect way to cement the hero as a true force to be reckoned with once again.

Granted, there are a few creative liberties that would need to be taken in order to bring the project to life. After all, Bruce isn't married in the MCU, the Illuminati don't exist in the sacred timeline (that we know of), and Hulk's exile to Sakaar already happened on the big screen. But as long as we see the rampaging monster wreak havoc in New York City, potentially fighting against other beloved MCU heroes, we'll get exactly what we need.

San Diego Comic-Con will take place from Jul. 24 to Jul. 27, so hopefully Marvel will reveal more news about the projects set to be released between Avengers movies. With a little bit of luck, the World War Hulk announcement will make us all jump from our seats in excitement.
