As always, New York Comic-Con saw a ton of major news get announced. Among the announcements were the reveal that Invincible season 4 debuting in March, Shang-Chi actor Simu Liu giving an update about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and other announcements that were exclusive to the people who attended.
So much was announced, in fact, that you may not have caught everything. If you're among those people, here are the ten most important comic book announcements from 2025's NYCC.
A new Sorcerer Supreme
Most comic book events leave the universe changed. That will be the same after One World Under Doom. The Sorcerer Supreme (Doctor Doom) is no more, so another will be needed.
Marvel.com teases:
"One willing to defy tradition, break every rule and chart a bold, new path. Will this rogue Sorcerer Supreme bring magic in the Marvel Universe to new heights or leave it in ruin?"
If I had to guess, it’s gonna be Stephen Strange. He's been in Asgard learning new magic (read Doctor Strange of Asgard for that story). Whatever he masters will make him more powerful, knowledgeable, and a better fit to protect the realm.
Absolute Catwoman
The responses about Absolute Catwoman in Absolute Batman No. 13 have been extremely positive. In anticipation of that, DC Comics greenlit a mini-series starring the newest Selina Kyle. It will be written by Scott Snyder and Che Grayson with art by Bengal.
Hopefully, this becomes an ongoing series. It happened to Absolute Martian Manhunter, why not Catwoman?
The end of the Ultimate Universe
Don’t be sad that it’s ending, be happy that it happened. The newest installment of Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe was a hit. As I’ve stated in previous articles, this was a chance at redemption. The first version of the Ultimate Universe started like a candle burning at both ends. It shone bright, but not long. Maybe this is for the best.
The ending of the Ultimate Universe is definitely bittersweet, but it's great that the series has had a chance to impress to many readers along the way.
Shadows of Tomorrow
After the Age of Revelation crossover, the X-Men start a new era with new series starring characters like Cyclops and Rogue, and new titles like Generation X23 and Magik & Colossus. These are only some of the series coming out as Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants in a new era that could bring mutants back together.
It's time to get excited for what Marvel has in store for us!
New Lobo series
The creative team of writer Skottie Young and Jorge Corona (who brought you The Me You Love In The Dark) are set to bring a new Lobo series to DC Comics fans. The quirky mind of Young, with the creative art of Corona, will give readers the series starring the Main Man that they’ve waited for.
With Lobo set to make his big screen debut in 2026's Supergirl (with Jason Momoa set to play him), now is the time to get to know the infamous bounty hunter better.
New Iron Man series
Writer Joshua Williamson (Superman) and artist Carmen Carnero (Exceptional X-Men) are teaming up to write a new Iron Man title. According to a report from Bleeding Cool News, Madame Masque will be a major part of this series. Fans of Tony Stark know the issues she causes with the Iron Avenger despite her not having powers.
Whether you’re a fan of Iron Man or not, this will be something to look forward to.

Swamp Thing is killing the Children
Something is Killing the Children has been looked at as one of the best original comic books in decades. Adding to that is a crossover no one knew they needed: Swamp Thing.
It will be interesting to see if the lore of Boom Studios' Something is Killing the Children is how DC's Swamp Thing enters this universe. Either way, we should expect something truly gripping.
Hel Will Reign
In Venom No. 250, it was revealed that Hela had captured Knull and calls herself the Queen in Black. What I thought would be a series within this title was announced to be an event in the summer of 2026.
How will Marvel's Goddess of Death fare in her frightful new role? It's going to be a thrill to watch her take it on, that's for sure!
A serial killer and possible love
Spider-Man and Venom are more than just former partners. Thanks to Mary Jane Watson being its host, their connection is deeper. In the upcoming title, Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral, the two will face a new serial killer (who I’m guessing is Muse).
This writer hopes this is the event where MJ and Peter finally get back together. It's been too long.
New challengers for DC KO
DC KO won’t just involve the characters in the DC Comics universe. More challengers from other companies are joining the contest. Among them are Red Sonja, Vampirella, Samantha from Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, the Annabelle doll from The Conjuring (and technically real life), Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero, and The Boys’ Homelander. The latter is the fight people have been waiting to see long before The Boys debuted on Prime Video.
This was already one of the most compelling DC storylines, and these announcements have simply added to the excitement!
