The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to big superhero comebacks. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men swung back onto the big screen courtesy of Spider-Man: No Way Home, even when fans thought they had seen the last of them. Furthermore, Wesley Snipes' Blade and Jennifer Garner's Elektra had an unexpected (but explosive) role in Deadpool & Wolverine over a decade after their last cinematic appearance. The cherry on top? Variants of the X-Men from the Fox era will steal the spotlight once again in Avengers: Doomsday. Could it get any better? Well, thanks to a beloved TV series, it very well might.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is finally upon us, and it's set to be bigger than its predecessor in every way possible. Case in point: Jessica Jones will finally make her MCU debut in the Man Without Fear's upcoming adventure. Such an anticipated comeback sparked speculation that a Defenders reunion could be soon to come. But while Marvel has kept its cards close to the chest, the crossover feels a lot more possible now that a fan-favorite actor teased that his character might jump into action once again.
Mike Colter teases Luke Cage's return in the MCU
Once upon a time, Marvel and Disney had a deal that allowed the streaming giant to bring many street-level heroes to life on the small screen. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were all adapted in the modern era and got to cross paths in an epic miniseries. Unfortunately, once the deal came to an end, all of these series were axed without a second thought. For the longest time, we thought we'd never see these iterations of the characters back in action, but Daredevil: Born Again finally changed that.

After a long wait, Matt Murdock and Frank Castle finally made their MCU debut back in 2025. Furthermore, Jessica Jones will also join them in 2026, and it looks like Luke Cage isn't far behind either. During the latest episode of Shawn Stockman's On That Note, Mike Colter revealed that he had talks with Marvel to reprise his role as the iconic Power Man:
"Listen, I will say this: I’ve had conversations, and I’ll leave it at that (...) Now I think I've reached the point where I'm like 'I have some unfinished business', and I think Daredevil is back, Jessica is back, so I would say we're in a better position to see this come into fruition faster than we think. So, yeah, we'll see."
It's no secret that Marvel actors are very secretive when it comes to unannounced appearances. Some say they can't confirm or deny their involvement in a project, while others straight up lie to keep the surprise intact (as was the case with Andrew Garfield before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home). That's why it is all the more surprising for Mike Colter to be so optimistic about a potential Luke Cage return. At this point, the hero's return would seem all but confirmed, and there's even more evidence to suggest that might be the case.
Insider James Mack revealed that Luke Cage is in Daredevil: Born Again, and that he could even get his own standalone series further down the line. Furthermore, scooper Alex Perez also reported that both Luke Cage and Iron Fist will show up in the Man Without Fear's upcoming adventure. It all ties up with the ending of Born Again Season 1, when Matt Murdock mentioned that he'll need an army if he wants to take the Kingpin down.
It seems unlikely Marvel will reveal Luke Cage's return prior to the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, given how close we're to it. That means we'll have to wait until March to discover if a Defenders reunion is indeed happening or if we'll have to keep on waiting. With a bit of luck, Luke Cage manages to rise from the dead against all expectations, and just maybe we'll get to say the same about Foggy Nelson, too.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will be released on March, 2026.
