'Cancelled' MCU heroes will reportedly reunite in upcoming Marvel project

There was a time when we thought we'd never see any of these Marvel heroes again in the MCU, and now they're reportedly coming together in a big crossover.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe spans many interconnected projects across the big and small screens. As such, different superheroes have had the opportunity to come together even in the least expected of places. As years have gone by, audiences have seen these crossovers happen more and more frequently, and every occasion brings a lot of excitement and a sense of disbelief.

Three Spider-Man variants reunited to stop the Sinister Five, Wolverine and Deadpool united forces with previous Fox Marvel heroes to make a final stand in The Void, and Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau literally switched places to save the collapse of the multiverse. The list of examples goes on and on, and things will just get better the closer we get to the end of the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

The X-Men are set to cross paths with the Fantastic Four and Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Doomsday. But as if that wasn't enough, it appears audiences will be in for the crossover of a lifetime on the small screen as well. One thing's for certain: 2026 can't come here soon enough.

All the Defenders will reportedly appear on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

This month, Marvel dropped a huge bombshell by announcing that Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones will officially be back in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. While an exciting announcement in itself, it also sparked speculation that we could see the rest of The Defenders make their proper MCU debut after the cancellation of their respective shows. When asked about this prospect, the Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, simply played it coy by stating that there needs to be a narrative reason behind every character's appearance. Fortunately, we may now have a more direct answer.

According to a new scoop by industry insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Luke Cage and Danny Rand will also aid the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in bringing down the Kingpin of crime. Furthermore, details about Iron Fist's upcoming role were also revealed. Remember how he decided to drop the "hero" mantle until he discovered more about the history of the Iron Fist at the end of the second season of his Netflix show? Well, it seems that the storyline will still stand in the MCU. However, Danny will come out of hiding in order to become a "mentor" to a new, powerful hero. But who could be this mysterious new player?

Back in February 2022, Lin Lie took over the Iron Fist mantle in comic book pages and even sought out Daredevil to aid in his superhero training. Lin Lie would later attend Danny Rand's funeral, who died on his birthday fighting Ch'i-Lin. With that in mind, it isn't far-fetched to assume Marvel is looking to adapt a similar storyline on the small screen.

Perhaps Matt will attempt to recruit Danny to make a stand against the Kingpin, but the living weapon of K'un-Lun will refuse to do so (at first). It isn't until Lin becomes involved in the story that the current Iron Fist will come out of hiding and help train his successor. Eventually, audiences could even witness Danny's death — further cementing the Kingpin (or his task force) as a true force to be reckoned with, while also opening up the door for a new, younger version of Iron Fist to steal the spotlight in the future.

By the time Daredevil: Born Again season 2 premieres, nine years will have passed since the release of The Defenders. With that in mind, it's great to know that these beloved characters will finally meet again, especially because it seemed like an impossibility back in the day, once all of the Marvel Netflix shows were cancelled. Granted, it's always better to take any Marvel rumors with a pinch of salt. However, the official return of Jessica Jones all but confirms that Luke and Danny will also be back, and we can't wait to see how it all unfolds.

Daredevil: Born Again will be released in March 2026.
