Back before Sigurd Jarlson was the All-Father and God of Thunder, and this comic book was titled Immortal Thor, Thor’s son from an alternate reality, Magni, was brought into this universe. But this wasn’t what was supposed to happen. The Enchantress made a deal with the All-Father to bring her son back. She wanted Iric Brorson back, but got Magni instead. That threw a wrench in her plan to become the ruler of Asgard. But Amora (Enchantress) isn’t someone to give up when things don’t go her way. She adjusts and is usually victorious.
After Thor was killed (Immortal Thor No. 24), Enchantress continued her plan to become the ruler of Asgard. The problem is that Magni was the new King of the Ten Realms and had the power of the All-Father. So, how do you kill someone with that kind of power? You use the one thing that no one can escape: Time.

Enhatress promised that Magni would rule for forever and a day, and she kept her word. However, with the help of Ullr Odinson (the aptly named God of Doom), Amora kept Magni stuck in a pocket of time within his throne room, where he lived for forever and a day. Once Magni was dead, Amora appeared with Ullr and blasted the last of her son's remains. So, she kept her word (as she always does) and managed to get what she wanted. After eons of waiting, Amora was the Queen of Asgard.
Without an heir, the throne and the All-Power and the right to rule would go to Enchantress. Ullr warned her that there would be a cost, but Amora doesn’t take heed: She believes that there will be no cost because Magni is her child from another universe. And with that, she takes her form as the All-Mother and sits on her throne.
What’s next for Mortal Thor?
When Ullr Odinson said there would be a cost, it didn’t take long for me to realize where the revenge would come from. Thor may be in the void, and his physical form (Sigurd Jarlson) on Earth without knowledge of who he is/was, but every Marvel Comics fan knows that won’t last long. Eventually, the God of Thunder will return. When that happens, he will have words (and lightning) with his son’s mother.
The good news about the upcoming battle between Enchantress and Thor is that you may not have to wait long. Thor No. 800 is coming next month, and the description for that issue says: “Somewhere in the city, a man without even a hammer begins the ultimate quest... the quest for Thor!”
Of course, the current All-Mother will do whatever she can to stop Sigurd from regaining his power and throne. Luckily, it’s easy to guess that even in his mortal form, Thor will have help. And, if I had to guess, Skurge the Executioner will play a part in Enchantress’ downfall. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see if I’m right.
