The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen a big resurgence over the last year after a streak of underwhelming projects that were launched to poor critical reception. Movies like Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps were launched to overwhelming acclaim, while beloved TV shows such as Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again have been officially renewed for a new season. A breath of fresh air seems to have struck the superhero giant, which only makes us all the more excited about what's to come.
While the Devil of Hell's Kitchen has been at the center of attention thanks to Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, he won't be the only street-level hero getting the spotlight. The Punisher is set to have his own Disney+ special presentation on May 12, after which the wall-crawler makes his long-awaited return to the big screen courtesy of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. To keep the streak going, VisionQuest is then set to culminate the storyline that began back in 2021 with WandaVision. After the dust has settled and we've witnessed these heroes face no shortage of threats solo, we're in for a complete change of pace.
2026 is set to culminate with a bang thanks to the release of Avengers: Doomsday. After a seven-year hiatus, Earth's Mightiest Heroes will finally assemble once more to fight the multiverse as a whole. All eyes are currently set on the upcoming MCU crossover, and with excitement at an all-time high, it's easy to forget that there's still a bigger film on the horizon. However, this highly ambitious project is now in pre-production.

Avengers: Secret Wars is now in pre-production
It's nearly time to bid our farewells to the MCU's current saga. As reported by Variety, Avengers: Doomsday is officially in post-production after wrapping up principal photography and reshoots. So, now that the upcoming crossover heads into its final stages of development, Marvel is looking at what lies ahead, meaning Avengers: Secret Wars has now entered pre-production.
What makes the news all the more exciting is that casting announcements for Avengers: Secret Wars are likely to start coming our way soon. Any big Marvel production is usually surrounded by a lot of secrecy, as the studio usually tries to save as many surprises as possible for the opening day. That being said, it wouldn't be far-fetched to assume that the superhero giant will try to get ahead of any set photos or leaks now that its biggest film to date is getting near principal photography.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 set pictures spoiled that the Defenders are finally reuniting on the small screen once more, before Marvel had the chance to make the announcement in its own way. Granted, security is always amped up for an Avengers movie, but even then, Doomsday set pictures unveiled that the TVA is bound to play a role in Earth's Mightiest Heroes' upcoming adventure.
Given that Marvel made an official cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday over a year before its official release, we could face a similar scenario for Secret Wars. With San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, Disney could shock the world by unveiling the next generation of X-Men. After all, reports indicate that the studio is already eyeing actors to take on roles like Beast and Rogue.
We might be over a year away from watching the biggest MCU movie ever made, but the adventure begins now. With a bit of luck, it won't be long before Marvel itself gives us a taste of what's to come.
Avengers: Secret Wars is set to be released on December 17, 2027.
