The tale of Marvel's Blade video game has been nearly as grim as its movie counterpart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Back in 2023, publisher Bethesda announced that developer Arkane Lyon would craft a single-player, action-adventure game starring everyone's favorite vampire hunter, Eric Brooks. Video game players worldwide were eager to explore the vampire-infested streets of Paris and slash their way through every problem standing in their way. Unfortunately, three years have since gone by, and we haven't seen anything more about Marvel's Blade.
A few concept art images were released along the way, and employees at Arkane Lyon suggested the game was still alive and well. However, that didn't stop multiple reports from surfacing, claiming that Xbox intended to shut down Arkane Lyon. This put the future of Marvel's Blade into serious jeopardy, and fans started to expect a possible cancellation. On the bright side, it has been confirmed that the game is still alive and well... just don't expect it to come our way any time soon.
Marvel's Blade has been delayed internally at Arkane Lyon, according to a new report
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that Microsoft has, unfortunately, laid off 1,600 employees and plans to double that number by the end of the 2027 fiscal year. Additionally, some studios under the Xbox umbrella will now become independent or find a new owner altogether. Developer Arkane Lyon is among those affected.
Arkane's future isn't set in stone just yet, as it is in "consultation with its Works Council to review potential strategic options." However, Asha Sharma revealed that none of Xbox's first-party games that were already revealed will be canceled as part of these layoffs, which means Marvel's Blade should still see the light of day. However, a new report suggests that day could still be a long way off.
According to insider That REDACTED Guy, Marvel's Blade has been delayed internally at Arkane Lyon and "will continue to be delayed" until the studio finds a new parent company. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the title has gone over budget, which would explain why Arkane could not continue working on it until it secures new funding.
Furthermore, the same source revealed that Marvel's Blade was always intended to go multi-platform, meaning it wouldn't be exclusive to Xbox consoles. Those plans seem more certain than ever now that Arkane will be under new leadership, which means PlayStation players are likely to be able to play the game as well. The only question remaining is, when could we see more about it?
So far, we haven't even seen a glimpse of gameplay for Marvel's Blade, despite the game being announced three years ago. Xbox's recent restructuring will also have a big impact on the development of the title, so that could rule out any possibility of seeing more of it this year while Arkane Lyon finds and settles into a new home. There's also a small chance that Arkane releases footage of its upcoming superhero title to generate hype among fans and attract possible investors. However, there's a reason why the game hasn't been publicly shown yet, and it will likely stay that way.
Marvel's Blade isn't the only game we know is seeing the light of day, except we don't know when. Recently, it was confirmed that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is still alive and well, but it won't hit shelves until 2027 at the earliest. On the bright side, Marvel's Wolverine has secured a Sept. 15, 2026, release, while Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will come our way on Aug. 6, 2026.
There's plenty of action left while we wait for the release of Marvel's Blade. Let's just hope we know more about Arkane Lyon's future sooner rather than later.
