Marvel character reportedly won't be back for upcoming projects

One of the Multiverse Saga's biggest characters may not return before the saga comes to an end. Could Moon Knight be a big part of the Mutants Era instead?

The Multiverse Saga has been an extensive chapter for Marvel Studios, full of highs and lows. Although a lot of people have been harsh on the franchise due to some of its shortcomings, it is understandable to see why the studio struggled so much this time around; because when you introduce more characters, storylines, and universes, there are far more opportunities to get it right... and also far more to get it wrong. And boy did they introduce plenty of new characters.

Among the new additions this saga have been Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau, Moon Knight, Layla El-Faouly, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Wolverine and more. It's all been about introducing a new generation of heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adapting characters the franchise had not yet managed to adapt, and presenting them all as major players in the Multiverse Saga.

That being said, it sounds like we shouldn't expect to see one of them return throughout the Multiverse Saga's remaining titles (though a long-term return is likely).

Moon Knight "probably" won't return before the end of the Multiverse Saga

It's unlikely that we will see the character of Moon Knight return before the end of the Multiverse Saga. At least that is what prolific industry insider Alex Perez seemed to suggest in their recent Q&A with fans (via The Cosmic Circus) when responding to a fan's questions about characters, like the Eternals, who had a leading role in a Multiverse Saga project that likely won't appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Perez named Moon Knight and the characters from his show, saying:

"I think Moon Knight and the characters from that series probably fit in that category. Werewolf by Night falls in here as well."

Now, of course, this doesn't rule out an appearance from Moon Knight entirely, and it certainly doesn't rule him out from the sequel Avengers: Secret Wars, but it is unlikely that the character will be involved in either of these projects. If that turns out to be the case, then we won't see Marc Spector, Steven Grant, Khonshu, and the unnerving Jake Lockley make their presence felt in another title within the Multiverse Saga, and that would be a darn shame.

Moon Knight was a major fixture of the Multiverse Saga, premiering as the sixth Disney Plus series produced by Marvel Studios in early 2022. It was acclaimed by fans and critics, with all pointing out how incredible Oscar Isaac's performance was, as he brought Steven and Marc's opposite personalities to life with ease. However, it was noted how isolated the series felt from the rest of the MCU, with no references to any of the previous events within the franchise. While that was a good thing, it does seem as if Moon Knight and his characters might remain separated from the rest of the MCU for the time being.

The good news, however, is that the character will be involved in the MCU going forward. There have been long-standing rumors that Moon Knight will return for a second season, which star Oscar Isaac even acknowledged at one point. In fact, in recent months, as reports revealed that Marvel Studios was looking to build upon some of its Disney Plus miniseries and turn them into ongoing TV shows, a number of further reports have claimed that the studio plans on officially renewing Moon Knight and Hawkeye for second seasons.

Fans have been waiting for a Moon Knight update for nearly three years now, so it goes without saying that the thought of not seeing the character on-screen throughout the rest of the Multiverse Saga is frustrating, especially when he played such an important role early on. But the fact that he likely will return, coupled with the potential of a Midnight Sons project further down the line after the Multiverse Saga ends and the new one begins, is more than enough to keep us all holding out for updates about Moon Knight's return for just a little bit longer.
