It’s been two years since Moon Knight debuted on Disney+ and after what has felt like an endless wait, it seems Marvel Studios is finally working on a second season of its breakout Oscar Isaac-led series.

While nothing has been officially confirmed or announced by Marvel Studios, Daniel RPK is among the many Marvel insiders currently reporting that Marvel is actively developing a second season of Moon Knight. Should Marvel officially renew Moon Knight, the series will become only the second live-action Disney+ Marvel show to land a second season – though it seems Ms. Marvel season 2 is also being mulled by Disney execs so perhaps the list will grow even more soon.

Moon Knight’s first season most certainly set up a second season with the season ending with the official introduction of Steven Grant’s third alter-ego, Jake Lockley, who was seen working with Khonshu in the final scene of the season. That post-credit tease seemed to hint that there was more story to be told and that we’d get to finally learn more about Jake after the character had been teased across the season with throwaway lines about Steven losing chunks of time and Marc assuring him he wasn’t to blame.

With Jake seemingly taking over the reins as Khonshu’s new avatar, there’s no telling where the story could go next but with Harrow having been killed off at the end of the season it seems the show will shift its focus to a new villain in season 2… and it seems Marvel might have figured out who would be perfect for the job.

Moon Knight season 2 villain rumored to be Bushman

As some fans might recall, when Moon Knight season 2 rumors first began to gain traction there was a lot of speculation that the second season would see Moon Knight facing off against Egyptian variant Rama-Tut, which made sense. Rama-Tut had been teased in the post-credit scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and if Marvel was going to be building up Kang as the next big bad in the MCU it would have made perfect sense for Marvel to use Rama-Tut as the main villain of Moon Knight season 2 – which could have also allowed for an organic cinematic debut for Moon Knight when the time came.

However, with Marvel moving away from Kang as a villain in the MCU following the firing of Jonathan Majors, it seems Marvel Studios has decided to pivot away from Rama-Tut and is instead looking to use Bushman as the central villain for season 2.

While Bushman was adapted by Marvel for Luke Cage, the character actually shares a rich history with Moon Knight and is actually part of the character’s origin story in the comics. In the comics, Bushman and Marc Spector are allies at first but when Bushman takes things too far with a gruesome killing spree, Marc turns on him. Unfortunately, Bushman gets the best of him, beating him within an inch of death and leaving him for dead in the desert which is what paves the way for Marc to meet Khonshu and become his avatar.

After becoming Moon Knight, Marc makes it his mission to bring Bushman down and the two become adversaries who face off in a series of stories over the years including one which brings them both to New York which is interesting given there have been rumors Moon Knight season 2 would be set in NYC rather than being set overseas in Egypt.

In the comics, there is a storyline that sees Bushman making his way to New York where he operates a drug and gambling ring in Harlem. Moon Knight eventually seeks him out and leads to a new showdown that sees Bushman stealing and destroying the Statue of Khonshu Marc had taken from the tomb and believed to be the source of his power and purpose.

If season 2 does indeed shift the focus to New York, bringing Bushman in as the main villain of the season would be a natural choice though the show might have to make some changes to the storyline given Bushman was not involved in the origin story the show told in season 1 regarding how Marc came to meet Khonshu and become Moon Knight.

We’ll have to wait to see if Marvel hands out an official renewal, but it seems the pieces are falling into place and that season 2 of Moon Knight could become a reality soon!
