It seemed like this day would never come, but we finally have Spider-Man 4 news. Ever since Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire stole the spotlight during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, audiences have wondered how the Marvel Cinematic Universe hopes to top itself with the upcoming entry in the saga. Unfortunately, Disney and Sony have remained tight-lipped about what the future has in store, and we had nothing but a few rumors to go by. But in a shocking turn of events, it seems the days of secrecy are finally coming to an end.
Deadline recently reported that Spider-Man 4 found a new co-star in the form of Sadie Sink — better known for portraying Max Mayfield in the Netflix hit series Stranger Things. Unfortunately, no details about her role were revealed, but that doesn't mean we can't put on our detective hats and speculate.
We've previously heard rumors that Sadie could bring Jean Grey to life in the MCU, but it would be strange for such a big X-Men character to debut in a Spider-Man movie unless she were to go to college with Peter, and even then it's hard to imagine she'd have a big role in the story. So ruling that possibility out, here are the three characters Sadie Sink is likely to play in Spider-Man 4.
Sadie Sink could play Mayday Parker / Spider-Girl
Okay, this option might sound a bit surreal at first, but hear us out. Back in September 2024, there was a report indicating that Sadie Sink would portray the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst's Mary Jane in Spider-Man 4. So now that we know the beloved Stranger Things actress is indeed appearing in the movie, it seems all the more likely that she'll be Spider-Girl as well.
Thanks to the recent success of Ultimate Spider-Man (2024), Marvel knows fans can immediately fall in love with a story that depicts Peter as a father doing his best to take care of his kids. So there's a possibility that we could see Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man have a similar arc on the big screen as well. Besides, Disney could be trying to replicate some of the magic seen in the Spider-Verse saga. And if Mayday does end up making an appearance in Spider-Man 4, then Sadie Sink would be an absolutely perfect fit for the role.
Gwen Stacy is a possible character Sadie Sink could play
Before it was announced Sadie Sink would join the cast of Spider-Man 4, it was heavily rumored that the movie would feature a new female lead. Reliable insider Daniel Richtman further elaborated on this idea by stating that Peter would find a new love interest moving forward — a clue that might point us in the right direction when trying to uncover the truth about the character's identity. The cherry on top? Credible scooper Alex Perez teased who Peter's new love could be by saying "Remember when I mentioned the working title was Blue Oasis?"
If that name rings any bells, is probably thanks to Spider-Man: Blue — a beloved comic book storyline in which Peter reminisces about his time with Gwen years after she took her last breath. So the working title Blue Oasis might indicate that the wall-crawler's "funny valentine" will make an appearance in Spider-Man 4.
Gwen and Peter first met in college on comic book pages, so it would be the perfect time to adapt that storyline to the big screen as well. Besides, we've heard reports that Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin will be back in the MCU, which means Marvel has the opportunity to take everything away from Peter once again, except tragedy could strike on top of the Brooklyn Bridge this time around.
Spider-Man 4 could see Sadie Sink play Mary Jane Watson
Now, I know what you're thinking: The MCU already has a version of M.J., and she's played by Zendaya. However, there's always the possibility that Michelle Jones and Mary Jane end up being two completely different characters. Much like Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane only met Peter until he was in college in comic book pages, and there's a chance we see a similar story play out on the big screen.
Sure, Michelle already has the "Watson" last name in the MCU too, and it seems a bit unlikely Marvel will introduce two different versions of the same character from the same universe. But it's also important to note that Spider-Man 4 is shaping up to be a multiversal adventure. On that same page, renowned insider HolyField News hinted that Sadie's character will be from a parallel reality, which means we could be introduced to a different variant of Spidey's most iconic love interest.
If Tom Holland's Peter does meet a different M.J. from a different universe, it would make it all the more heartbreaking when they eventually have to part ways and return to their home world. However, such a tragic storyline would not only be fitting for a character like Spider-Man, but it could also prompt Peter to talk to Zendaya's M.J. once things get back to "normal".
Only time will tell who Sadie Sink will portray in the MCU. On the bright side, it won't be long before official announcements come our way given that filming begins during summer 2025. And if everything else fails, set photos will undoubtedly make their way online and paint a clearer picture of what to expect.
Spider-Man 4 will be released July 31, 2026.
