Marvel Comics is officially connected to the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially crossed over with the comics thanks to Loki writer, Katharyn Blair. Some may question this move, but it’s a smart one.

Once upon a time, you could separate the world of Marvel Comics from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that changed during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con when it was announced that a new comic tie-in TVA would bring the two together. Writer of Disney Plus’ Loki, Katharyn Blair, brings her show to Marvel’s comic books in TVA No. 1.

The issue starts with Spider-Woman, Gwen Stacy (the same one from Stephanie Phillips’ Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider comic) doing a commercial to recruit people to join the TVA. After the events of the Loki season 2 finale, B-15 gives all TVA employees the option of leaving and going back to their past lives. The problem is Miss Minutes actively tried to kill people and overthrow the company. She said it was a coding error, but let’s see if that excuse sticks.

Later, Gwen Stacy runs into Jimmy Hudson, Ingrid, Captain Britain (Peggy Carter), Mobius, and O.B. There’s something screwy going on that’s causing people who’ve never been to the TVA’s headquarters to see it while they’re experiencing traumatic moments from their lives. To solve the problem, B-15 activates an ace up her sleeve. She goes to a cell holding a variant Gambit so drunk and disorderly the TVA hunters pick him up.

Dr. Ingrid Thysson could be the same one from Earth-616 continuity and Jimmy Hundson is likely the same one who debuted in the Ultimate Universe and eventually made his way to Earth-616. However, there are infinite timelines with infinite versions of characters from comic books and the MCU. They could be anyone. That’s the beauty of putting everything together. Comic books will have access to characters fans loved in the Marvel Studios movies and shows. It’s also an easy way to bring heroes and villains back to the MCU.

While there will no doubt be fans who aren't happy about the fact that the movies and shows can influence or cross over with the comics, let's hope that everyone is open to seeing the good that can come out of a tie-in crossover like this one. Sometimes, people don't give something a chance when it deserves it (remember The Marvels?!). Here's hoping that is not the case here, becayse TVA has all the potential in the world.
