Marvel Comics isn't holding back. Previously, in issue No. 11 of Ultimate Wolverine, The Republic used a bomb powered by the brain of Charles Xavier to take out the Opposition (Gambit, Shadowcat, Archangel, and other well-known X-Men). The aftermath left Logan and a Sentinel powered by Legion to stop Colossus (Piotr Rasputin) and his sister, Magik (Illyana Rasputin). In the most recent issue of Ultimate Wolverine, Logan and Legion set out on their journey to kill the people who took their family's lives.

Logan crashes through the Kremlin window, kills a Sentinel powered by Scott Summers (Cyclops), and forces one of the scientists to take him to a specific place that holds a woman who was speaking in his mind and controlling him. That person is known as the Phoenix Specimen. To Marvel Comics fans, she’s of course known as Jean Grey. Unfortunately, before Logan can escape, Magik and Colossus stop them.

Wolverine is the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice. Sadly, even he can’t beat Colossus and Magik by himself. They're too powerful. That doesn’t mean Logan wasn’t going to go down fighting. Thankfully, he didn’t have to, because, before the two siblings could kill Wolverine, Colossus says he can’t move and that his brain is burning. That’s when readers (and Magik) notice that Jean Grey is awake, furious, and inside the metal giant’s mind.

Before Piotr’s brain is burned, he tells his sister to flee. Illyana says that she’s retreating because her brother tells her, but that’s only partly true. Realistically, for the first time in decades, there was terror in Illyana’s face. The Phoenix was more powerful than her, and she was outnumbered. And, like every villain in comic book history, Illyana doesn't leave until saying: “This is not over.”

After everything is over, the people opposing the Republic regime rush to the Kremlin. They see that it’s burning and understand that this is another chance to stand up and fight back. And as much as Logan tried to be negative about his situation, even he had to admit that things were looking up. People are fighting back despite consistently being beaten down, and he has a new, powerful ally and friend (Jean Grey) to help him on his mission for revenge. So, things may look bleak, but at least there’s a silver lining.

The next step is fighting the biggest bad in Universe-6160 (Ultimate End by writer Deniz Camp and art by Terry Dodson and Jonas Scharf). The Maker is almost here, and Logan has no clue what he’s getting into. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to see what happens when Wolverine meets Ultimate Reed Richards.
